A tribute to alternative radio circa '91

Postby ame01999 » Thu Aug 15, 2013 3:32 am

Looking back, I think it was an interesting time, because Nirvana had already hit the radio, but there was still room for non-grunge guitar bands on the radio (like here, This Picture, The Men, Tami Show), and the alternative genre was still connected enough with the 80s to showcase synth pop. And even Enya was on the radio! I can't imagine this stuff playing just a couple years later, next to the Breeders, Belly, etc. ... 92-part-3/

it is funny that you posted this..
I just made a playlist on my Ipod and Itunes on 80's bands that had hits in the 90's
there is a lot of them!

Cure, Depeche Mode, U2, PIL, INXS, Tears for Fears, Duran Duran, New Order, etc

any faves out there?

I was thinking of the big hit of the Divinyls of "I Touch Myself" and Electronic "Getting Away with It"

Your mixes are the best I have ever heard.
So far I have the 2 NWO ones, the 4 Flexipop ones and the Dusk mix one. THey are all i listen to these days, constant rotation. Amazing
Did you ever put the 1991 one on dropbox? Would love to grab it too
Any others I missed?
Thanks again for doing this, great great great stuff!

Hey, Wayne, glad you're liking them. Sometimes I feel like I'm posting in a void ;)

I have another installment in the '91-92 compilation I can put up soon.

More of a compilation than mix: a friend of mine had a baby and I put together a few hundred tracks to indoctrinate her in my favorite 80s artists. I tried to go beyond easy radio singles, so maybe there are some deep cuts you haven't heard. But I also reneged on that because I can't live without some pretty famous singles, so EveryDay is like Sunday, Pretty Persuasion, others are included. (Note: I'd already made him a cd length Chameleons compilation, so these below are like disc 2)

Try these zips; select the standard download option once you're on the Mega site.!vspSBbLY!M2QVoslwqTlE ... zXy43DvXic
