New Wave Name That Tune September 2013

Postby Jim2 » Mon Sep 09, 2013 11:47 am

OK, rsgonzalez has convinced me to do it... so here it is.

All songs have been either released as 45 or a 12 incher or a music video. No buried LP tracks or obscure B sides (this time).

The almost usual Rules: Twenty songs, with one point for correct song and one point for correct artist, for a total of 40 possible points.
Send me your answers with the "Email poster" button or to my e-mail tworowzee(at)aol.com. Please do not post any answers here! I will e-mail you back with how many points you have and post an updated standings each day I receive an entry (usually at 11:00 pm EST). I will not reveal the answers until the deadline has passed.

You'll have three weeks to guess these songs, so don't e-mail your entry right away, as that one that sounds familiar may come to you in a day or two. The deadline is Monady, September 30th at 11:00 pm EST. Good luck, and hopefully I've introduced some new bands/songs to your world.

Does this mean that there could be extended versions of tracks also included as opposed to only 7" versions?
If that is the case, it seems to me that it makes the whole thing much harder to guess in some cases (IMHO), because the intros on the 12" versions often are long and slowly evolving and here we have each track playing for only for 5-10 seconds.

Most of the songs intros are over 15 seconds long with the shortest one being 6 seconds (some are much longer than they need to be). I just included "12 incher" to justify not using an obscure, possibly seldom know album track. Some songs are from 12 inchers, but they are easily recognizable and were the only version I have available in mp3. I tried to make this easy to play with some well known songs but I also included some songs to challenge better players.

Received a near perfect entry today. We have a new leader.

1. Player #4 (38 Points)
2. Player #2 (30 Points)
3. Player #1 (18 Points)
4. Player #3 (16 Points)

Song #18 was not guessed, but one other player has it.
Player #4 so far is the only one to have identified songs #'s 5, 9, 15 & 16.

Lots of time left before the deadline of Monday September 30th 11:00 pm.
