once in awhile a remix comes along
and just takes a song to another level..

here are some that i like..
and the lame originals.

suzanne vega - toms diner (ugh)
-------------------------------
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNWyF3iSMzs

a boring snoozefest of an acappela

and then the funky remix
------------------------
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLP6QluMlrg

====================================================
figures on a beach - accidentally fourth street (not bad)
----
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1z02IPuAkpY

the remix (much better)
-----------------------
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWTkDWHwFQQ

---------------------------------------------------------
inspiral carpets - two worlds collide (boring indie rock)
------
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csxBQLG4-3Q

the remix (manchester era sounding)
----------------------------------------
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKOqVacHAUk

another weirder one if you like electronica
-----------
one dove - why don't you take me
---------------
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9ft2XjIq88

the underworld remix up 2 down
-----------------------------------
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXajFAsYN9c

most of underworld remixes transform the song
into something completely different and unrelated,
much like aphex twin (richard james) remixes too.

there's some st. etienne mixes too like that.
(well a lot of them)..

see if you can think of some.

I have heard a few Etienne remixes and I can't think of a single one that's better than the original choon.
On a related note though I'm listening to 'Honest Joe' off Wah-Wah by James at the moment. There was a dub-type remix that showed up on a Select Magazine tape in about 1994. Pretty cool... but not sure it's better than the Wah-Wah version.

I prefer the normal version......the normal UK 12" was from memory only slightly extended......wouldn't mind having the stems for this one to re rub/stretch it to around the 7mins mark.

yep.....that's the version...personally I would have given it a drum intro then bring in the keys/strings to extend the intro slightly ,i would have had an instrumental brake after the 2nd verse and maybe extend some of the choruses by rearranging the stems around the chorus.

Seeing all the love for Doot Doot around here, I thought I'd try this approach and listen to the 12" to see if I could discover the magic.

Nah, it's just an extra 2 and a half minutes of miserable drudgery.

For me, New Order's "Subculture" remix is far superior to the original.

agreed, but there were some good razormaid mixes of it, like
this one (there were 2 or 3 with extra backup vocals):
