Welcome to the new board!

Hi everyone,

After many years of incurring way too much in web hosting costs under a Windows-based provider, I have decided to switch to a much lower cost Linux/open-source hosting solution. I've migrated the entire board over to the new phpBB system from the old SnitzForum (which is rapidly being outpaced and outdated). My older site reference pages will follow in the coming weeks.

There will be some bumps in the road so please bear with me, but I think you'll find the new board environment a lot more satisfying once you get over the initial shock of a slightly new way of doing things here.

All the best,
MikeP

Done. phpBB settings out of the box are pretty loosey goosey.

I just added the YouTube bb code button in the Post form -- just paste in a YouTube link, highlight it and click the YouTube button.

Pure HTML is too much of a security risk and can ultimately lead to real f*ckery. Let me know if there is anything that doesn't seem to be rendering or posting correctly with any new posts.

Thanks for tips...I will see if I can run a script to retroactively fix quotes and images over the next couple days.

Yes, despite even requiring email verification and CAPTCHA, they are still getting in so it's back to manual approval for me ... the only thing that will stop this onslaught of spam from Russia and China.

Checking the 'Log me on automatically each visit' box does not keep me logged in for each visit.

Mike,

Thanks for your dedication to maintaining this forum board.

I noticed one thing today in the Music Video forum category it looks like that the "author" of the post and the "last poster" on the article seem to be reversed.

I like it better already. The bugs worked out later will only enhance this opinion.
Thanks Mike 8)

Hey Mike , Noticed that the previously posted You Tube videos are no longer functional. guess we'll just have to start new video threads or can this be fixed.

Yes, I will get the previous quotes, embedded images and videos fixed soon. phpBB uses bb tags but it also does something (probably for security purposes) that is preventing me from simply doing a global search/replace in the database.

I will also look into why sessions seem to die so soon and you need to login again only after an hour or two.

All posts have downloaded already but I would need an example (subject or keyword) of a missing one to confirm whether it's missing.

Always a learning curve (new look and definitely more features) but the old one was costing me way too much, disk space-wise, and it just isn't being supported/updated much anymore not to mention that it was built on spaghetti code (for any developers out there) and was very bloated. The search is blazing fast on phpBB where it was almost a lost cause on the SnitzForum.

Great job Mike. I've been on other phpBB boards, and it's nice and speedy. The new format does make me realize there's an awful lot of sub-forums. I wouldn't mind if you hacked some back to consolidate the lightened traffic.
