Florida...the Sunshine State...known for beaches, warm weather, and oranges...and new wave/synth/power pop music too! Florida gave us healthy doses of (usually obscure) new wave bands in the 1980s. The Tampa Bay Area seemed like a fitting area for a new wave scene, with bands such as Triple XXX Girls and Helicopter. Any discussions about Florida 1980s bands are welcome here!

These are the only obscure new wave bands from Florida I've heard of so far:

Helicopter
Triple XXX Girls
Brave New Tribe
The Mix
A New Personality
Head of the Class
Eden's Rebels

On YouTube, there's a sample from Tampa's WMNF 88.5 radio show from the 1980s that featured a band known as "Ash Wednesday", a trio of a female singer and two other guys who provided guitar, drum machine, and synths. They played a recording of one of their songs, called "Dreams End". After mysterious commercials for Difficult Listening and Generic New Wave, the band played another recording of a song called "Making Wishes", but you only get to hear the very beginning.
