Hey Jimbo

My first song was also "Warm Leatherette" by The Normal. I heard it at Hurrah's in NYC 1979 while waiting for the B-52's to perform a midnight show. Only thing was I couldn't tell what the lyric was. I thought it was "Warm Leather Ass" duh. I

For me it had to be "Mad World" by Tears for Fears... I had been listening to bands like the Clash, the Damned, Pistols, etc... Then that song hit and I thought the synth sounds were out of this world... to bad most of the eighties got really cheesy after

Songs that got me revved up for the explosion to come:
"Just What I Needed" - The Cars
"Cars" - Gary Numan
"Freedom of Choice" - Devo
"Bette Davis Eyes" - Kim Carnes

I think either "Don'

Wasn't a song, but it was the cover of the Police 'Outlandos'. Just so raw, weird looking, I had to hear it (had never even heard "Roxanne" before buying it). Then it was the cover of "London Calling" (who the hell could resist that image??).

Half a Person on WLIR. My friends were into wave but I was still stuck on classic rock / heavy metal. I was forced into listening to it then it grew on me.

Had to laugh reading Jimbo's response about not knowing who had done "Psycho Killer". The same thing happened with me. I actually first heard it in local clubs being covered by local bands--it was many weeks later that I stumbled across the song title on

KISW, the hard rock station in Seattle, started playing punk/post-punk acts like the Clash and Elvis Costello around 1979, along with some of the power pop stuff like the Knack and the Records. I was thirteen and my favorite songs were "Green Shirt," "Wa

Hexicon,

KJET 1600 was another good station. I also remember the Seattle band "Visible Targets" as being a great New Wave act. I thought they would make it big time, but they didn't. Thanks for striking up fond memories of Seattle radio.

He loved Kraftwerk, and played them a lot, along with Can, Silv
