Are there any good songs on H17's Teddy Bear, Duke & Pscyho

Postby WeLiveSoFastx83 » Thu Apr 13, 2017 6:15 pm

I know Heaven 17 started going downhill from Pleasure One, but there are still at least 3 songs from the album. I've just never heard anything about their 1988 album 'Teddy Bear, Duke & Psycho'. Are there any good songs on it?

Actually it was better than Pleasure One (their worst), and the best cuts are Snake And Two People and Dangerous. Also the CD version, has the instrumental Slow All Over.

Pleasure One had a few brilliant moments such as Trouble but TBD&S has no redeeming features for me. The songs are pleasant but anyone could have made them. You could spend your whole life avoiding this album and it would be fine.

Trouble was actually the only good song from Pleasure One. They basically didn't sound themselves there, abandoning completely their Electronic roots. And sounding like a subpar version of Spandau Ballet.

Their best was How Men Are in my opinion, they found the perfect measurement between Electronic and acoustic instruments.

So on my list their albums would be:

1) How Men Are
2) Luxury Gap
3) Bigger Than America
4) Teddy Bear Duke & Psycho
5) Penthouse & Pavement (OVERRATED!)
6) Pleasure One

Penthouse & Pavement overrated?!?

That's probably their most new wave sounding album though. "We're Going to Live for a Very Long Time"... aahh....

Not so. It was their most Kraftwerkish album I'd say.

How Men Are was far better imo. Shame Is On The Rocks, The Fuse, Flamedown...so many great and catchy songs.

I agree, it's up there with Luxury Gap. I also agree with your higher ranking of 'Bigger Than America'. "Designing Heaven" is a fantastic track.

Bigger Than America is a highly overlooked and pretty unique album. That's how Synth-Pop would sound in the mid-90s I guess, but Synth-Pop was a dead genre by the time and such albums are rare.
