early UB40...yeah !!! i LOOOOOOOOVE that 1980-83 tape. it was so heavy & dubby, it's hard to believe they were the same band who put out "Red Red Wine". that tape was the best to play late at night when you were ready to wind down and go to bed. and it STILL sounds great now. i am telling you, that was a TERRIFIC tape! and yes, UB40 refers to the unemployment form back in the day, in England.

oh yeah, and the other early UB40 tape, called "UB40", was also awesome. i especially like "Madame Madusa" and "Strange Fruit" and "Reefer Madness". very heavy/ dubby/trippy.

No... The First UB40 LP "Signing Out" was absolutly the shit! Nothing the did since then even compares.

It ranks op there with great late 70's first releases that became reagge classics Like Steele Pulse's "Handsworth Revolution" or Althea and Donna's "Uptown Top Ranking"

just a little anamated,

'Signing Out' IS an awesome album. The cover of the album IS the British unemployment form from which the band took its name (seems that things were pretty bleak in the UK in the early 80's - - - I can think of many examples of British groups bemoaning the state of the economy in their songs).

It's a very slow-paced, dubby album and it hasn't aged badly at all. Very unlike their subsequent big hits.

You know the cool thing about the new re-issues of the Specials and Madness and the English Beat or even the Jam is you get thier cool music videos in MPEG Video, Quick Time Video or AVI. I would love to get The Police red room videos from Top of the Pops of Roxanne and Cant Stand Loosing You.

cheers,

Wow, gang, I hate to say it, but the years are adding up...I read awhile ago that the eyes are the only part of the human anatomy that remains the same through life...except for that lifelong love of great music!!! Ska still smokes...I don't care what anyone says...The energy still lives and manifests in all shades under the human rainbow...Anyone out there seen Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra this past summer? They have the energy...they have the love...they do need to eat a little food, though (wow, are they skinny)...Anyway, a good ska band starts with the drummer and TSPO has that...
Hey, my new CD is almost finished...my webmaster will be loading four new downloadable songs today or tomorrow... http://joshharrismusic.com/ ...please stop by and grab an earful....B#

Title: WHITE REGGEA AND SKA

QUOTE: how could I forget Fishbone?

Umm, because they are black. And they are simply the best there ever was/is.

How about the Pietasters, MMB, The Toasters, The Scofflaws, for late 80s eary 90s stuff.
