Valley Girl by a long way. The way the music is used in the movie is very clever too. Dunno why, but this is still my favourite movie of all time.

I remember the "hype" regarding "Times Square" (It made me buy the soundtrack)!

The movie/ sountrack was put together by RSO (Robert Stigwood), who a few years earlier had a minor :) hit with "Saterday night fever.

actually, one of my favorite XTC songs came from the Times Square soundtrack "Take This Town".

Which was to be my first choice. Ya, the movie was crap but it didn't keep me from incessently watching it at the unripened age of 11.

This isn't the definition of NEW WAVE- it actually defines the Post Punk movement- but I always loved the description-

1 - No 12-bar blues format
2 - No big fat 'rock' power chords and blues-based solos
3 - Mix the bass and drums up high, and ofte

hmm what about the wedding singer i guess its a cool soundtrack there n 24 hour party people , which about the story of tony wilson tha man behind factory records,it also shows movement in manchester..and JOY division

Yeah, Ferris Beuller, Valley Girl and Pretty in Pink were the ones to come to my mind when I first saw this question, but I was sure one of you highly knowledgeable wavers would come up with something better. Sure, love the soundtracks, but none of these

Yo! What about Rock and Roll High School? Yeah it has some straight up rock but with the Ramones, Devo, Eno, and Nick Lowe, it's got to be the godfather of new wave flicks!
