Pete Shelley

Postby bigarbel » Thu Dec 06, 2018 3:32 pm

Today I received the Sides Of EP by Pete Shelley in the post and I just finished ripping it. I wanted to look for the cover online and see that Pete Shelley died today. A bit spooky.

Pete Shelley's Homosapien and XL1 are albums I will always treasure. I bought the cassette version of XL1 because of the extra dub mixes it offered (of course greatly helped by Martin Rushent also sadly missed).

I always felt Pete Shelley did not receive the recognition as a solo artist he deserved at the time and is now also mostly referred to as "from The Buzzcocks".

How do my fellow board members feel about Pete Shelley?

I agree that pete's solo work is just as worthy as the amazing things he did with the Buzzcocks. They were a pretty raw punk band (albeit with his always-great hooks), but he had no problem embracing the early synth-pop sound and running with it.

Sad as this news is, he left a terrific legacy of great songs...something his friends and family can be proud of.
