never heard of "Icehouse", "Tokyo Streets", nor the opening of the Blue Thunder soundtrack, so I'm totally going by everyone else's posts:

semi-warbly:
Joy Division - "Decades"
Front 242 - "Operating Tracks"
Single Gun Theory - "Exorcise This Wasteland"

not-quite-so-warbly, but pretty dark:
The Cure - "Cold", "Funeral Party"
Clan of Xymox - "Muscoviet Musquito"
New Order - "In a Lonely Place"
Wire - "I Should Have Known Better"

"Love Like Blood" by Killing Joke... although it's more Rock driven than synthy [8]

How about a newer tune? Like Apoptygma Berzerk's "Kathy's Song" and De/Vision's "Try To Forget".

Nice call! I love Coil and it's always great to see them mentioned.
What a shame about John Balance.

I'd also like to recommend "The Vacuum Shop" and "What A World"

Although not exactly an NWO type of group, the opening of Death in June's "The Calling" has to be one of the darkest (well at least eeriest) bits of music I've ever heard.

Lay off the crack pipe. That was done by The Normal [:D] Suicide is great, though. "Johnny Teardrop" is notably dark and angsty.
