NIN's album Pretty Hate Machine. That is one of Trent Reznor's best works IMO. Sanctified and Ringworm are really dark as far as the beats go.

I would say Tubeway Army (Gary Numan)-Replicas certainly fits the bill, as does much of the output of The Sisters Of Mercy (but then were getting into Goth territory).
