What?! Rotten haggis from a condemned Liverpudlian pub is better than the Beatles to you ya hack. Now quit picking on Gino. And don't even think of knocking Stephanie Mills, Barry Manilow, or Patti Labelle! What next, Taco WASN'T god's gift to New Wave? Yeah right!

The Beatles' #1 contribution to music was providing material for Joe Cocker to cover. He put more emotion into one verse than all of The Beatles' vocalists combined could manage during their entire career.
Now I think I am going to have to do a noise/experimental cover of Gino Vanelli song. [:D][:D]

Hey at least Gino Vanelli is better than those sell-out hacks Sonic Youth![:D]
(just saying hello Motors...knew you could'nt resist Beatle-bashing in this thread).

Why has everyone forgotten about the New-Musik 'All You Need Is Love' track ?. For me it is the most outstanding New-Wave Beatles cover ever !! New-Musik's 'Warp' album was the in the "Official NWO Top Albums" on this forum..... This track (& Single) may not have been that great, but most certainly outstanding !.

Ghosty! What's up? Did you realize that at one point during the 80's, Sonic Youth was seriously considering covering the entire White Album?
Now that would have been interesting.[8D]

Great mention of Monsoon doing TNK, but there's one more version I can think of : Yukihiro Takahashi on his album EGO.

Does that make TNK the most covered Beatles tune?

Phish - now there is a band worthy of our derision. Immensely talented individuals, but the end result is just awful. And I've heard it all having lived in Burlington, Vt for a few years. I really wanted to like them because Trey Anastasio used to shop in the record store I managed and he was one of the coolest people I've ever met. He purchased a little bit of everything every time he'd come in (jazz, reggae, punk - you name it and the man knew it). Maybe there's just too much going on in Phish music, I don't know but I can't deal with it.

Technically not a Beatles song originally, but for whatever it is worth Mental As Anything covered Rock N Roll Music. While the band The Breakfast Club covered Drive My Car.Utopia did a whole album's worth of Beatles sounding songs from their Deface The Music album, while the first two Spongetones albums reeked very much sounding like the 60's Beatles in every song on both of those albums.

Also, Smith (not really NW, more R&B) did Baby It's You (which the Beatles covered)

As for Money, that was also a tune the Beatles covered.

Did the Jam do another Beatles tune? The ripped off Taxman of course (brilliantly, on Start!) but I thought they did She Loves You or something. Not sure ... anyone?

Last thing I can think of is Dave Gregory of XTC doing either Strawberry Fields or I Am The Walrus. I've never heard it (I'd like to!).

In the definitely not NW department (IMHO), Pat Benatar did Helter Skelter.

The Jam covered several Beatles songs:
And Your Bird Can Sing
Rain
Slowdown (a cover of the Larry Williams tune that The Beatles covered on the Long Tall Sally ep)

Dave Gregory is actually the one responsible for The Beatles covers, he recorded 'I Am the Walrus' as Colin's Hermits for the German comp 'Without The Beatles' and Andy helped with the vocals for SFF (which can be found on Fuzzy Warbles 3)
