Stay (The Second Time Around) [Solved]

Postby Panorama » Tue Sep 05, 2006 1:27 am

Last night I emailed Iva Davies through the Icehouse web site about this song, and linked to the clip http://spiritofradio.ca/SongSearchH/220.mp3 -- his webmaster emailed me back right away:

Hi Dan,

Definitely not Icehouse... I know every song intimately, including all of the unreleased ones!

I hope that puts one theory to rest.

I've been hoping someone would have identified this by now. What an amazing song!!! Does anyone even have this song in its entirety on a cassette or something? To me, it sounds either Canadian or Australian New Wave. You never want to rule out Italo Disco though because some of those bands cross over really close to regular New Wave. Anyways, I hope someone solves this mystery soon.

This song/thread is more intriguing than an unsolved murder. I have to check in on it once or twice a month, each time holding my breath, hoping...

It's probably just wishful thinking, but hopefully some day in the near future the artist or someone in the group behind this song will stumble upon our site and will be able to solve the mystery that so many of us want to know. Currently they're the only ones or one who have the key to unlock that door. Help could be on the way. I'm throwing a spare penny in the pond and making that wish.

I might have found a new path to this song:

From 1984 to 1986 a guy named Rainer Sauer had a show on the German music station HR3 called "Sounds vom Synthesizer" where he presented new and promising bands from the Synthpop underground, most of them without a record contract at that point. In an older post I read "Stay" probably was recorded on HR 3 or the NDR in 1986, so it's pretty probable that our track might be one of those presented in the show but never made it out of the underground...
Maybe this helps to put the puzzle together..

[/quote]Can you somehow find Rainer Sauer and contact him? At least you are in Germany, that's a good start. Here's hoping that he is on the right track.

A new trace, maybe:

Rainer Sauer just responded to my email, so here is the (hopefully not too bad translated) short-version:

"I know the song and I think that the interprete is "K. Barré", although I'm not completely sure. I think the title is Stay (The second time), but here I'm not sure, too. Because most of the songs in the show "Sounds vom Synthesizer" were published by the ZYX-Label, I'm pretty sure that the title originates from this label."

I'm currently searching the WHOLE net for songs by K. Barré!!

Hmmm...Don't think this will be it. While there is a "K. Barré" who does appear on a ZYX comp, the song is called "Right By The Moon" and sounds nothing like the song we're after. (Actually, there was so much suckage when listening to this, I had to anchor myself) Checking into other releases by this artist draws a blank, which may be a good thing, because this guy's voice is irritating.

I was going to post the song but I'm trying to be less cruel in my posts; and for some reason I haven't been able to get Yousendit to work for the past few days.

I did some searching too and came to the same conclusion. Wavedancer101, can you contact Rainer Sauer again and ask if he can do a bit of investigation? So many people are looking for the answer to this riddle.

My first initial thought when listening to the clip was Jon Astley, but I had listened to my LP and it did not match up. I really do hope someone here finds out who sings this song. This is my first time posting here but have been following this thread through the years and want to thank all of your for your extended efforts, one day the mystery will be solved!

Devo might be on to something...this was recorded on Memory Records in 1984, and both fit with what Wavedancer had posted as Memory records was a division of ZYX Records out of Germany.

That's OK, because I'm trying to be more cruel in my posts.

I may not be an Italo disco connoisseur, but there's no way that's the same guy singing.
