RIVERMAYA (NEW WAVE TRIBUTE)

RIVERMAYA (NEW WAVE TRIBUTE)

Postby DSR » Sun Oct 08, 2006 11:17 am

RIVERMAYA is one the prime bands of the PINOY ROCK ATERNATIVE SCENE of the early 90s. With a major revamp of the BAND LINE-UP(without BAMBOO,original vocalist in the 90s), RIVERMAYA's Musicality have matured through more than a decade. They have survived the trials and test of BAND intrigues. Now fronted by RICO BLANCO, they were the first PINOY BAND to perform on the prestigious MTV ASIA AWARDS NIGHT.[:)]

RIVERMAYA's latest CD release is a TRIBUTE CD ON THE PINOY NEW WAVE/PUNK SCENE IN THE 80s.[8D] Entitled "Isang Ugat, Isang Dugo" in English " One Root, One Blood", this awesome CD is a must for PINOY NEW WAVE COLLECTORS!! All songs included in this CD are NEW WAVE/PUNK REVIVALS originally sang by great PINOY NEW WAVE/PUNK BANDS. RIVERMAYA's rendition of songs from bands like IDENTITY CRISIS, DEANS DECEMBER, VIOLENT PLAYGROUND, WUDS etc. are EXCELLENT!![;)] With great CD packaging too!![;)] Rico Blanco explained that this is their most humble experience in doing an album.[;)] He also confessed that the band themselves were great fans of this PINOY NEW WAVE/PUNK acts and they really loved the experienced recording the songs.SULIT![8D]

So KABAYANS grab a copy now![8D] THE ORIGINAL COPY OKAY!! HE HE HE![:D]

Hey, I used to like those bands, what happened to them? It seems that only The Dawn survived the troubled waters.
BTW, did U see me on MTV with the singer Nina? I never watch the show but all my friends are telling me. Gosh I'm becoming commercial, I will have to commit suicide![:D]

It's another OPM project of RADIO STATION JAM 88.3(Your kind of mix)![;)] Recently JAM 88.3 has good OPM compilation albums. It started out with last year's #1 OPM album ULTRAELECTROMAGNETIC JAM(A TRIBUTE TO THE ERASERHEADS), then THE BLEND(OPM ACAPELLA COMPILATION), then DOOBIE NIGHTS (OPM REGGAE COMPILATION)! ANG GALING!!![8D] SULIT LAHAT KAYA BUMILI AKO NITONG TATLO CDS FOR COLLECTION PURPOSES!![:D] Tapos eto nanaman RIVERMAYA CD!![;)] O diba completo!![:D]

Recently MAGIC 89.9 also has an OPM TRIBUTE COMPILATION ALBUM for the influencial APO HIKING SOCIETY![8D] ANG GALING DIN NITO ALBUM!![;)] Maybe MIKE you want to check some songs from the CDS I've mentioned. MERON DIN AKONG NAKIKITANG POTENSYAL NA MAIPATUGTOG SA ISTASYON. [:D]

With the recent OPM BAND BOOM in MANILA, I think the CDS I've just mentioned are some of the ALBUMS that passed my taste![8D][8D][8D]

I heard that WUDS are still around, doing some gigs? Binky Lampano, Jr of Dean's December suffered a hearing problem and he's been doing blues work for over a decade now.

HI MIKEY![8D] Just watched the launching of this CD. WOW!![;)] Awesome set.[8D] I just wish a lot of PINOY BANDS coming out right now would have more sounding of NEW WAVE than an ALTERNATIVE ROCK status.[;)]

Good thing someone or some band paid tribute to this local NW greats. I guess Bamboo and Rico had a lot of musical differences and maybe thats the reason why they parted ways. When Bamboo was with Rivermaya, they somehow still sound NW, especially the song "ULAN". When they parted ways, Bamboo is more on Rock while Rico somewhat bring out his NW in his music.

Rivermaya did back up when Lotus Eaters held a concert here right? Hooray for Rivermaya. Better get a copy of this one.

YUP!! Good for this band! They did a great job backing up THE LOTUS EATERS in their concert. I watched the concert and it's one memorable NEW WAVE NIGHT with THE LOTUS EATERS at ROCKWELL TENT. Though, the venue was humid.

Mga kababayan! I am a great fan of Rivermaya ever since I personally met and sort of knew them personally in the 90's while working as a small town DJ in Iloilo City. Now I am working as a Med Tech in Texas, U.S.A. and my problem is I don't know where to buy this new tribute CD by Rivermaya to New Wave/Punk Bands of the 80's (Pinoy Band scene). I was in college during the New Wave Era and so I consider myself a New Waver both in body and soul. So I knew that Deans December and Ethnic Faces have long since disbanded or ventured into other genres. I hope the song that Rico chose to record as tribute to Deans December is "It doesn't snow in Manila" or I sort of heard Ethnic Faces' "Golden Boy" was remade by Rivermaya. I am quite excited to but a CD for I have been away for 1 year now. I have great respect and admiration for Rico and his band for I know he is a really a genius having met the guy and the latest members plus the original drummer, is really a solid line up. I like the way Rico have molded and rehashed the repertoire of Rivermaya. I compare them to U2 for every album they offer something new to listen with and some really great songwriting. If anybody knows where I can buy in the USA this tribute CD please send me the website or correspondence my email address is axelf175@yahoo.com
Thanks in advance mga chongs!

Oi!
