I think Italo was 80's version of Eurodance. To me personally the term Eurodance is more associated with 90's, when elements of House/Eurohouse and Techno were becoming more popular with artists like Rozalla, Real Mccoy, La Bouche, 2 Brothers on the 4th Floor, Magic Affair etc etc
imho 80's Euro/Italo more closely resembled NW, with a more romantic feel to the songs than the 90's Eurohouse.
also as someone already pointed out, German label ZYX seems to have coined the term Italo, that's partly why many German 80's Eurodisco artists often get bundled into Italo Disco genre.
