Stay (The Second Time Around) [Solved]

Postby PhotoshopKid » Mon Sep 16, 2013 10:09 pm

Full Lyrics

Up on the roof I go
Sit and drink my wine
People running down the row
I wanna feel the cool winds blow
Killing time up here
Just me and the empty sky
Trying to sort things out
About what happened the other night

Woman you're on your own
I knew this had to come
Now your walking out my door
Calling a cab on the way you go

Sitting on a rooftop
Talking to a blue sky
Drinking on a rooftop
Listen to my heart go, don't go, don't go
Listen to my mind go

Stay, the second time around
Won't you please Stay, the second time around
Darling won't you please Stay, the second time around
Ah please Stay, the second time around

Watching the girls go by
Like a string of pearls in the crowd
Hey you with the long black hair
I've got some wine to share

Sitting on a rooftop
Talking to a blue sky
Drinking on a rooftop
Listen to my heart go, don't go, don't go
Listen to my mind go

Stay, the second time around
Won't you please Stay, the second time around
Darling won't you please Stay, the second time around
Ah won't you Stay, the second time around

That Johan Lindell lead looks to be VERY promising. Here's the site for the whole album:

http://www.johanlindell.se/musik/ghost-rider

...unless this, too, is an elaborate hoax.

After listening to the (alleged) whole song, it's a bit hard to think why this wouldn't have been a bigger hit in that era; it just fits right in.

Not that it really matters I suppose ... but I think he's saying "Woman, I've done you wrong".

As glad as i am that this is finally solved, I'm a little disappointed in the song as a whole. The chorus is definitely the best part of it.

Great that it's finally solved and no real surprise that the guessed title was way off.

Well, that was a letdown.

Congrats Rene, I'm so happy for you, and everyone that worked so long and tirelessly to solve the mystery... I can't wait to hear what Johan Lindell has to say... was he aware that any of this searching was going on for so long? I'm just amazed that we finally have an answer, great work everyone.

Happy you posted the clip to DeDiniDevil Rene, glad Paul Miceli posted it to spiritofradio..ca, glad the thread happened on NW Outpost, glad I posted it to youtube, and thank you, thank you for Reddit, and the listeners in Sweden, really an amazing odyssey.

Now, can we buy a high quality digital copy of On The Roof? Please, Please, Please...

Over in the Reddit thread, someone posted that the Swedish radio station tracked down Johan Lindell for an interview. Here's what was posted:

Excerpts from the interview:

He says he had no clue about this search because he doesn't even know how to send an email. He is overwhelmed with the fact this has become such a fenomenon.

His song "Ghost dancer" was some sort of club hit in Germany and that's why "On the Roof" was played on the german radio.

When he heard the fact that over 325 000 has heard his song on youtube he felt the need to hold on to something.

He has promised he will try to put the song up with better quality. He only had the song on vinyl himself.

The song was played on the air in full with the best quality the radio company could do.

Really enjoyed the interviews !

Let's give it up for PP3 Radio in Sweden ! most stations here in North America wouldn't have given this the time of day.

I'm going to miss all these years that I've been checking this thread every week to see all the guesses about this song. It was very entertaining.

I remember I posted this song here on 2004 after listening to it on Dedinidevil and Spiritofradio. It was the song I liked the most and the catchy one. This one and also one by Eskimos & Egypt, i guess. Those were fantastic years of New Wave on the internet specially by Torchomatic's site and this website's Song of The Week. With both sites we had the UK and the Americas New Wave convered but not the rest of Europe.

The facts that this song was actually from Sweden and the fact that it was sampled just the chorus with no mention of the phrase "On The Roof" were the facts that made this song so difficult to identify.

Regarding the song itself, I must say that the rest of the song is not as good as the chorus but it will improve a lot with a better quality sound and speed up tempo.

Thank you very much to everyone interested on our mystery song !

Cheers,

FarFetch.
