Thompson Twins 2 on 1 CD BAD!!

I pointed two reps from Edsel to this thread so they can see the results of their shortcuts. They've had nothing to say about it. Even the project manager for the TT set has refused to comment on the pictures of masters that were not used for the mastering. Draw your own conclusion. The Altered Images reissues from a few years ago will always be a disappointment. All Edsel releases should be approached with caution because audio quality is the least of their concerns...

Has there ever been a more aptly named record label?

Finally received my copy. It's not great, but it's not New Order, either. I don't regret buying this.

I guess what makes this one worse is that the tapes were available, just not used, so to get a CD that is not manufactured with the best quality available materials, for the sake of saving some cash, is the worst of all. That being said, I still think the bonus tracks on CD1 and the bulk of CD2 are utter shit quality. Not to mention the speed changes...

I purchased all the other Thompson twins remasters but I will take everyones advice on the A Product Of and Set CD remaster. I have a cassette from Thompson Twins release called TAKE TWO-- It has Set on Side A and A Product Of on side 2. It is on a Superferro tape which claims it was the highest quality alloy thigher than that cr02. Can someone enlighten me on Supperferro?
I just put it on and was going to make a 360kbps compression of it because it sounds pretty damn PRISTINE for it's age released in 1983. The cassette says original sound recording made by HANSA? Is this the original source? I wonder if Edsel could use this tape to fix their CD? It sounds great.

My copy finally arrived today.

If I look at it as "A Product Of..." only with some extra stuff thrown on, it nice. The original APO sounds pretty good compared to my beat up cassette tape.

"Set" on the other hand is a NIGHTMARE. I will keep my original copy of the US "In The Name Of Love" which they could have copied from and it would've sounded fifty ka-jillion times better than this attempt from Edsel.

Still looking for my girl with auburn hair and tawny eyes...

Hmm ... maybe it's type III/FeCr (FerroChrome). They were never that popular. Type II/CrO2 (Chromium Oxide, Chrome), then later, Type IV (Metal) were more common. Don't know if Type III was actually better than Type II. Regardless, cassettes have poorer sound quality than vinyl, although without the crackles :-).
