The Last Pogo

Postby schwenko » Sun Nov 30, 2008 12:24 pm

I was in Toronto this past week to see Blue Peter in concert.

I wandered into Sunrise Records on Yonge Street (across from the late, great, Sam The Record Man) and found this dvd "The Last Pogo- The Last Waltz with a Different Band- Toronto Punk Rock 1978"

This is a film shot at a concert at the Horseshoe Tavern (Toronto's CBGBs) on December 1 1978 (30 years ago). The 2 Garys booked the cream of the Toronto punk crop (Teenage Head [rip Franki Venom], Viletones, Cardboard Brains, The Mods, Ugly, The Scenics) for a final concert. It was oversold, and the police came to shut the concert down-a riot ensued.

I've had a 39th generation vhs copy of this for ages, and had the soundtrack back in the day. Good to know its available again. How is the quality?

for something filmed in 1978, excellent- too bad it's only 26 minutes or so, one song per band.
The ensuing riot (after the police shut the show down) was not filmed, but there is audio of it.

BTW, there was 30th anniversaty show last saturday that featured some of the bands (Viletones, Mods) at The Horshoe- I only found out after I left Toronto the next day!
