New Wave covers the Beatles

New Wave/Punk music, culture, genres, memories. '80s revivalism and other relevant topics.

Day Tripper was covered by YMO, and Revolution by the Thompson Twins. Lots of Beatle covers in New Wave. A good song can be adapted to just about any genre, and the Beatles had a crapload of them.

I'm a little surprised that McCartney's "Coming Up" wasn't remade (as far as I know). It sounds like the kind of song DEVO or Duran Duran could of had some fun with.

did anyone mention Oingo Boingo's cover of I am the Walrus off their last record?
they also did a cover of the Kinks of You Really Got Me on the Only a Lad LP (sure everyone knows that!)

I heard World Party live in 1987 doing a Day in the Life live at their tour in celebration of the 20 year anniversary of the lp (man it was that long ago!)

Colin Newman of Wire did a fine cover of 'Blue Jay Way' on his excellent 1982 solo album, 'Not To' - highly recommended, both cover version and album as a whole.
