Midge Ure "The Works", new best-of compilation

Postby mgidaho_old » Mon Jun 03, 2013 1:30 pm

I picked this up used and on disc 2, song 7, Fields of Fire at the 26 second mark, it has a break/skip. Anyone else? Is this a my disc issue or a mastering issue? My disc looks fine; just curious if I should take it in to the local shop and have them buff it. Appreciate any info.

Think I found my answer from an Amazon UK review.

3.0 out of 5 stars Stars docked for faulty pressing
Whilst the quality of the music on these discs is unquestionable, has no-one else noticed the skip after 26 seconds of 'Fields of Fire'? I've returned my initial copy to Amazon and the replacement received today has exactly the same fault.

i just my copy of this today.

it's a very good collection.

yes, it's missing quite a few things.
but it's good overview, and has a lot of good tracks on it.

the sound quality is decent.

The point you should've made is does it have the mastering fault that all seem to be mentioning

Can anyone help me to buy the 2-CD Definitive Editions from 2010 of The Gift and Answers To Nothing. I'm searching for new ones.

Here are a few Euro vendors with mint copies of 'Answers' all reasonably affordable:

It's a bit late for 'The Gift' definitive edition. That one's hard to source in any condition. I was lucky to have a friend get me a used copy recently.

I presume these digital versions aren't vinyl rips? I ask because I know the Alphaville digital singles were from vinyl.

It's weird. The Alphaville digital singles were vinyl rips… but the actual Blank + Jones CDs of the same material are from pristine master tapes. A licensing issue. A diabolical licensing issue.
