Kate Bush Remasters!!

Kate Bush Remasters!!

Postby omar » Wed Oct 03, 2018 11:18 pm

This is perhaps the best news so far this year! Her entire back catalogue is getting the lavish reissue treatment next month. Both vinyl and cd boxsets are planned . The first cd boxset will include her albums 1978-93 while the second will include material from 2005 onwards, including rare stuff, live recordings and remixes . Check it out at http://katebush.com/news/album-remaster ... are-tracks.

That is GREAT news. Been waiting for KB remasters forever, nice to see we don’t have to wait several months for them. Now comes the inevitable worry about brickwalling / other shoddy mastering techniques. The article said the remastering was done by Kate and a James Guthrie? Not familiar with him, maybe the peerless Rubellan has some insight?

I can't say I'm familiar with that mastering engineer. I'm just as curious about the sound as anyone. That being said, I think I'm going to pass. They dropped some of the previously released B sides and disregarded a number of previously released mixes and versions. It's far from complete. That's why when an artist is involved and controls the project (Eurythmics, Boomtown Rats, Morrissey, etc), there's often changes and omissions that don't really look from the fan/collector perspective.

I have a weird feeling that after all this she might release a comprehensive "best of" perhaps early next year and save all those 7' remixes etc for that.

Furthermore all of these titles will be available individually in case no one wants the box sets.

Obviously nobody is a Pink Floyd fan here if they don't know who James Guthrie is.

Did he produce some of David Gilmours albums? I know that Gilmour helped Kate get started in the 70s.

Plus the 7" of Wuthering Heights, 7" of Wow, the 7" of Breathing, the 7" of Army Dreamners, 7" of The Dreaming, radio edit of Rubberband Girl, radio edit of Deeper Understanding, radio edit of Wild Man plus was there anything unique about those RSD picture discs from the 50 Words of Snow era?

Strictly speaking the single remix of The Big Sky *is* there because Kate's done a Kraftwerk and switched it out so in fact the album version of The Big Sky will be missing.

All the remasters have a dynamic range of 12-13. Probably the best remasters for years.

They’re not available easily on cd in the US, unless you buy through Amazon. Went to Amoeba music and they’re only stocking the LPs for now. Was told that the cd box set will be eventually out but no definitive release date.
