Red Flag: Naive Art 2CD/LP reissue

Red Flag: Naive Art 2CD/LP reissue

Pylon records is on a roll lately: Nitzer Ebb, Xymox, and now they're doing a 2CD reissue of Red Flag's Naive Art:

http://pylonrecords.com/DetailRedflagCD.html

Looks like everything from the album and the Naive Dance comp, plus some B-sides and mixes from the 'Broken Heart' and 'All Roads Lead To You' singles.

Great news! I'm pretty sure some mixes will be missing by necessity, as there were many, especially on vinyl.

no, just no.

yes, i know its not economical.

but try to get it right. it will take 3/4 discs to properly
do the mixes.

if you're going 2cd, pick out the rare mixes, and not
just the plain ones.

ughh.

I think it's hilarious that two of the biggest Depeche Mode copy bands of all time are releasing remastered albums at the same time. While neither Camouflage nor Red Flag were horrible, I always kind've laughed at them because it was so obvious how much they were trying to copy D Mode and how so far away from that level they really were. Two other bands I would put in the same basic boat would be Celebrate the Nun and Cause and Effect. Sorry to be negative about albums that some seem excited about, but to me that were all wannabees.
I do think that Camouflage's second album (produced by Dan Lacksman of Telex fame) was half decent though.

Right there with you. I remember hearing Red Flag's "Russian Radio" single on the radio and wondering "where did this obscure and mediocre Depeche Mode song originate?" I collected DM at the time and was stymied. I found and bought a copy of the CD single but only held onto it for a few years before trading it in. I see some people were willing to pay far more than the $2.00 trade value I got at the time for it.

and yet,

some camouflage, red flag, and celebrate the nun singles
(and ceta javu) go for hundreds of dollars with synthpop fans.

i like them as depeche mode clones.

they got interesting when they tried not to be copycats, and clones.

No. It's cool...I have the first two Camouflage records. Can't say I listen to them often, but when I do, I enjoy them. I just found the timing of the re-releases kind've funny, that's all....

What would be awesome is if they put the tracks from the vinyl album on cd.

Just listen to the 3rd Camouflage LP - "Meanwhile". It was two years ahead SOFAD of DM and full of acoustic instruments - guitars, drums, electric violin almost all the way through. Nothing in common with DM. Then 1995, "Spice Crackers" - once again nothing in common with what DM were doing in the 90s. And, finally, how can you can compare "Spirit" and "Greyscale" - two very different things: lush, diverse and orchestrated top-notch production of Camouflage vs clanky lo-fi electro-blues of DM. I saw the bands playing live a lot of times from 2001 and own all of their LPs and would say that they're very different to each other expect for the debut Camouflage album which was definitely inspired by DM.

When it comes to Red Flag, and wouldn't say RF also has their bright moments and can't be compared directly to DM - just have a listen to "Lighthouse" for example.

Would love a Moskwa TV compilation of all their tracks from their 12 inches. I have asked around to see if anyone would be interested in doing that but Moskwa TV doesn't seem to get anyone really excited. They never seem to fit to any of the reissue label release plans. I was hoping it would happen with the Westside resurgence from several years ago but that resurgence ended really quickly. Blank & Jones, being that they are also German, would be another possibility but commercially, Moskwa TV was never really recognized. If the tracks don't show up on the compilations, it's a slim a chance they will get an individual compilation. Anyways, still hoping for it to happen.

I still hold out hope that Infacted might do Moskwa TV as part of their Classixx series...they've done some related and semi-related bands like Axodry and Robotiko Rejecto, so they're already in the ballpark.

I have suggested that and others to Torben. He’s come through with most of my request except Moskwa TV and Microchip League “Code Numbers”.

Yes “Code Numbers”! Plus, they have other stuff that's never been released you could add. (I wanted to suggest that for Rubellan Remasters, but I was too lazy.) Also, Rheingold, "Distanz", has never been on CD, so that would be good, too.
