SHARE: Language - Alphabet City (1984) EXPANDED

Postby Dominik500 » Sat Dec 21, 2013 10:09 am

I get on a plane to visit my folks in New York in a few hours, but before I leave I wanted to share something I really love.

Language (primarily Steve Hale on vocals/percussion, with James Lee on guitar, and Eddue Reader, Nassim Khalifa & Debbie King on background vocals) created a phenomenal EP in 1984 and then disappeared. They were originally signed to Stiff records in '83 when they released their debut single "We're Celebrating [Boys & Girls Come Out To Play] which also appears on their A&M released EP. A&M put out a few promo singles from this EP. There's a white label only 12" for "Touch The Radio Dance" that features two exclusive versions, and a great sleeve, but was never released. There's also a white label promo that includes an exclusive single mix of "I'm Just A Boyfriend" I don't think you can find anywhere else. If You don't know these guys, take a look at their Derek Jarman directed video for

other strong songs include

Language - We're Celebrtating (Boys & Girls Come Out To Play) (1983)
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/CHGGR2y6FWk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

and

Language - Goodbye Indian Summer (1984)

It should be noted that the track times on the actual EP are all about 6 or 7 minutes, and they play like extended versions, which is why it's cool to have all these rare single versions included in this compilation.

Tracklisting and links below:

3. Touch The Radio Dance

Had the good fortune of finding We`re Celebrating 12" recently and it really is a special addition to my growing collection.

Thanks to Dominik for drawing attention to them in the first place! :)
