Incredible, I never expected you guys outside of Germany knew Spliff, that band is the sh**! It's strange that some of you remember Modern Talking, here they are now regarded as really bad taste [;)]

So here goes (should really watch the videos in case you don't know the artist):

1.) Spliff
(watch this, the end sounds amazing, Roland Jupiter-8 rules: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yatom-xO5w also watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEQt5Q839A0 )
2.) Kraftwerk
3.) DAF
(watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5vP5JpvGjw )
4.) Andreas Dorau
(watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57e3ht31S8Y )
5.) Rheingold
6.) Joachim Witt
(great song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvyDaH1yQi8 )
7.) Nena
8.) Ixi
(see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOgTow5e4LI )
9.) Hubert Kah
10.) Ideal
(see this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhjQxaXOrKc )

I hope you like it too!

Additionally, I like Giorgio Moroder and especially Conny Plank who were internationally successful german producers of artists like Donna Summer, Talking Heads, Devo, Ultravox and most importantly Freur [;)]

@somebody somewhere: you might be interested in BAP's song 'Kristallnacht'!

Both of them had short-lived U.S. deals, but no promotion. Spliff's one album on Epic was mostly rerecorded in English. I think (although I'd have to go dig it out to refresh my memory) "Carbonara" was the only track that was left in its original language.
@somebody somewhere: you might be interested in BAP's song 'Kristallnacht'!
I can see from the tracklisting that it's on the album I've got, but the clip I listened to did nothing for me and I honestly don't remember it at all. I found not one but two copies of it at Goodwill a long, long time back. (Well, maybe the early '90s.) Had no clue who the band were while I was grabbing them, but it looked interesting, so I bought both copies. Sometimes you got to splurge -- especially since they set me back 50 entire cents each.

Now... why wasn't "Nit fur Kooche (Teil 2)" the hit there, instead of "Kristallnacht??" That song KILLS.

Inga Humpe!

She just released a new 2raumwohnung album too.

Trio
Alphaville
TACO [;)] (snort)
Falco gets the 'almost German' ring-in award.

I think Taco is disgrace to both German music and italo disco as a whole. Nothing but covers, and even than one-hit wonder. It just shows how terrible the music tastes of US/UK market were at that time. I mean how is it possible that he had a hit here, yet Hubert Kah and Modern Talking were completely ignored!? Urgghhh[^]

Puttin on the Ritz was just a right 'song' at a right time.... rehashed broadway hit in a quirky style by a german artist in an artistic fashion.....

Yes it was complete shit.... but its quirkyness made it marketable...

I listed them in jest... but there is truth to the fact they had a hit hear, and I used to listen to it! (smacks own hand) ;-)

I'm really fond of this futurepop/EBM band too.
Actually, this is sort of their goofy hit but YouTube holds tons of performances by them.

lately been listening to a lot of Juliane Werding, her 1986-1990 period songs are very pleasant 80's pop even for a non-German speaker

Peculiar as Taco is Dutch, not German plus his music was far removed from Italo Disco.

Anyway, I am amazed Klaus Nomi has not been mentioned. A list of influential German artists cannot be complete without him
