REQ: bunch of rarities

Postby PKPN » Mon Nov 04, 2019 10:30 pm

I've been hesitant to request any rips because I take more of a laid-back attitude to file sharing—i.e., whatever you want to offer is fine with me, and feel free to take whatever I'm offering... But there are a few things which have been rather elusive and which would run me approximately the cost of a mansion and a fleet of yachts if I were to try to acquire it in the secondhand market, so I am finally going out on a limb and just asking for what I want.

If anyone reading this is willing to share rips of any of the following, preferably lossless (but lossy is OK too), I'd much appreciate the opportunity to fill in some gaps in my collection:

(I've edited this to grey out the things people have provided in responses below; thanks all!)

  • Intro - Haunted Cocktails [7" version]
  • The Dream Academy - Love (Hare Krishna Edit) + Love (Single Remix) from US promo CD PRO-CD-4411
  • Koo Dé Tah - Koo Dé Tah [CD: 830 267-2]
  • Midnight Oil - The Dead Heart (Short Version with Original Intro) [from US promo CD: CSK 1219]
  • Midnight Oil - The Dead Heart (Long Version) [from US promo CD: CSK 1219, or Beds Are Burning Japanese CD3: 12·8P-8012, or The Green Disc US promo comp: CSK 2038]
  • New Order - Round & Round [3:51 edit from US promo CD: PRO-CD-3463]
  • The Pinups - The Pinups [1980 LP]
  • Pseudo Echo - Love an Adventure [1986 CD: CDP 7 46257-2]
  • Thompson Twins - Lay Your Hands on Me (Cold Ending) and (Fade) [versions from US promo 7": AS1-9396]
  • various - Hit It. - Dance & Contemporary Music [US promo CD: PRO-CD-2753]
  • Denis & Denis - 2Na1 Collection [2010 CD: CD 5866558]
  • Denis & Denis - Program Tvog Kompjutera [1995 CD: CD D 5071303]

These are lower priority, because I have mediocre rips of them, but I would like to upgrade to lossless, clean rips, if anyone has these to share:

  • Billy Idol - Don't Stop [US CD: F2 21729]
  • Casino Shanghai - Film [LP or CD]
  • Data - Stop [3:43 7"/LP version]
  • Data - Elegant Machinery [clean LP rip or the 2006 UK CD-R from Georg Kajanus]
  • Eurythmics - I Need a Man (Edited) [from US promo CD single: 5361-2-RDJ]
  • Fashion - Product Perfect [1979 LP, but not the 2009 CD]
  • Figures on a Beach - Swimming [12" EP: MA-1002]
  • Hey! Elastica - In on the Off Beat [LP]
  • The Members - Working Girl [2014 CD: AGC00023]
  • The Members - Uprhythm, Downbeat a.k.a. Going West [2005 CD or 2018 CD]
  • New Order - Blue Monday 1988 [UK CDV: Facdv 73R, has unique 7" mix]
  • NightMoves - NightMoves [4-track maxi-single: GCT 1001]
  • Première Classe a.k.a. 1ère Classe - Poupée Flash [7" and 12" versions]
  • Propaganda [the Yugoslavian band] - Apatija Javnosti [LP]
  • Pseudo Echo - Listening (Dub Mix) [from 1984 US 12": V-7842]
  • Recht Herzlich ‎– Hab Mut Zu Deinen Lüsten [LP]
  • R.E.M. - Finest Worksong (Other Mix) + (Lengthy Club Mix) [from EU CD: 651320 2] [or from any other CD]
  • Siam - Catrix [7"]
  • Siam - Déjà Vu [7"]
  • Siam - Don't Look Back [7"]
  • Siam - Farewell Siam [LP]
  • Siouxsie & The Banshees - Peek-a-Boo [9:56 Silver Dollar Mix from Canadian CD single; I have it on vinyl but want a CD rip]
  • Siouxsie & The Banshees - Fear (of the Unknown) [US promo CD: PRO-CD-4345]
  • Spoons - Nova Heart 30th Anniversary 1982-2012 [digital or CD release]
  • Talking Drums - Pretend a Stranger [7" and 12" versions]
  • Talking Drums - Reassembly [1985 LP]
  • The Pool - 333 [original 1984 LP only; the reissue CD is a vinyl rip with too much noise reduction]
  • The Pool - Dance It Down / Jamaica Running [original 1983 4-track 12" only; the reissues sound awful]
  • The Sisters of Mercy - Lucretia My Reflection [US promo CD: PR 8019-2]

  • Torch Song - Prepare To Energize [2:59 edit from US promo 7", UK promo 7", or CA retail 7"]

  • White Pain - Paroles Absurdes [LP]
  • White Pain - whatever Kronchtadt Tapes release has "Nowhere To Go" on it
  • Yip Yip Coyote - Pioneer Girl (Prairie Mix)

Likewise, I have lossy versions of most of these Italian punk/new wave releases, so am hoping to upgrade to lossless, if anyone has any to share:

REQ: bunch of rarities

Postby xymox970 » Tue Nov 05, 2019 2:28 pm

https://www99.zippyshare.com/v/tuiFCBLI/file.html

Here is Propaganda - Apatija Javnosti (1982) at 320kbps

Its funny you should ask for this release because this band comes from the country of my birth (Yugoslavia) and I have never heard of them thus far.....
so I am really happy to have a chance to take a closer look at / listen to this album.

On the other hand Denis & Denis releases / re-releases are widely known / available, so I dont think it would be right to share them here for obvious reasons.

My list of recent wants / requests is down below on this / following page of this topic. :)

Thanks for Propaganda! Unfortunately it's ripped in mono. I did happen to find a very old stereo copy, 192 kbps, but the sound quality is poor (not because of bitrate but because it was made with one of the first MP3 encoders from circa 1998). So I am still looking for a good copy of this album.

Here's some other Yugoslavian new wave/post punk I enjoy:

various - Ex Yu Wave unofficial MP3 compilation
Boye - "Ja Sam Radosna" and other Demos
Oskarova Fobija - "Beli Dekolte" from the compilation The Hidden Tapes

I am probably the only person within 1000 miles of where I live who has ever listened to any of this. I do not understand any of the lyrics, but all of it really has that dark spirit which I love in this genre.

Here is the "Hit It"" USA Promo CD from 1987 in AIFF format:

https://www.discogs.com/Various-Hit-It- ... se/1307620

PART 1:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/gypcoh

PART 2:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/v1hc28

PART 3:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/oeqvtg

This CD indeed features a handful of extremely rare On-CD tracks, but I remember being slightly bummed at the overall sound quality when I first popped it in and listened.

It should be noted that I bought this CD around 1997-99 and as I remember, the only CD ripping software I was using at the time was Toast for Mac. I'm pretty sure this was even before iTunes was a thing! So this was well before making "perfect rips" with EAC or XLD (Mac) software was the standard. As such, the gaps may be slightly off, even though the track times do match up perfectly with the info on the Discogs entry.

I paid a hefty price for this disc at the time and sold it pretty soon afterward. I did make a decent scan of the cover which I have included in the "PART 1" zip file.

Here are the two U.S. 7" edits of "Lay Your Hands On Me":

https://www.sendspace.com/file/2vh18k

These are my own re-creations, as neither mix has ever appeared on CD (in a non-vinyl transfer). The first 6 notes of the piano intro for both tracks is from "Lay Your Hands On Me (1985 Extended Version Edit)" off the "Remixes & Rarities" 2CD from 2014. The rest of the song is taken from the "Here's To Future Days" 2CD release from 2008.

I had to add a slight reverb at the end of the U.S. Single Version because the track on the HTFD album actually segues into the "Future Days" track.

There is a 2nd section at the end of the U.S. 7" Promo Fade that I had to take from the previously mentioned "Remixes & Rarities" track.

Thanks, all.

Those CD-sourced fan edits of Lay Your Hands on Me are well done.

Is there a 3:44 US 7" version of Lay Your Hands on Me? That's the duration given on the promo 7", but both of the mixes on it are slightly longer than that.

Turns out I had "Hit It" already from when it was posted previously. When I looked for it on my system, it did not show up due to a glitch in my audio player's database. Whoops! Anyway, it checks out with CUETools; it matches several other rips, so all is well.

The MP3s all have problems:
  • Talking Drums album - aliasing from a low-quality resampler, transients softened by pre-echo, "syrupy cymbals", ancient MP3 encoder
  • Torch Song - pre-echo, excessive use of a noise reduction plug-in, Prepare to Energize might actually be ripped from another release, ancient MP3 encoder
  • White Pain - vinyl clicks & pops
When you weed out the transcodes (things uploaded to and downloaded from YouTube, and people who thought they would improve the quality by converting 128 kbps to 320 kbps) and the artifacts from the worst encoders (like the first versions of Xing and Fraunhofer), there just aren't any copies out there which sound all that great, hence my request for clean & lossless. :)

Fred, thank you so much!!! I appreciate your efforts! You have shared so many rare edits and fantastic recreations over the years. I will be adding both your recreations to my USB flash drive. I had no idea that both versions could be recreated using CD sources. I never really investigated. Thanks, again!

Arista was notorious for listing incorrect playing times on their 45's. Were there any that were correct? In other words, the 3:44 is definitely wrong.
