I have only ever heard It's A Mystery by her and that was more than enough.

It's A Mystery is a terrible and unfortunate representation of her work. I've always hated it. I feel similar about her other big hit I Want To Be Free. But I'm a huge Toyah fan because of most of her other material. For anyone who really only knows her for those two hit songs, I say sample other tracks by her on iTunes or YouTube because she's done some amazing work. Her early work pre-dated Siouxsie in the Gothic genre and really should be hailed as the birth of Goth. Sheep Farming In Barnet and The Blue Meaning solidify that. Later work varied. Minx was poppy and glossy but with some really catchy songs, Desire has a real elegant and beautiful vibe in parts, Prostitute is possibly similar to Danielle Dax experimentation and very 'out there', Ophelia's Shadow has more of a prog rock feel. Not everything Toyah has done is a winner but the bulk of her non-hit catalog really deserves a listen.

I absolutely agree. Her entire catalogue is worthy of a listen even if you’re not a fan. She’s truly one of new wave’s pioneering women and has an impressive catalogue to showcase. I personally prefer her earlier stuff pre Minx, but admire all her work overall.

I have Minx CD/Minx DLX RM CD/Desire CD/Prostitute CD/Ophelia's Shadow CD/Velvet Lined Shell CD and the singles on vinyl. I never got the "Take The Leap" CD. So maybe I can live without this and just pick up "Take The Leap" [but it's hard to source]. But I just went to Burning Shed and saw it was only £39 [$52] and for 6xCDs and DVD + 40 pp liner notes, that's a fine price. I thought "Prostitute" was her magnum opus. A bold, bracing album that never bores. If you are one of those who's never managed to get the "Desire" album on CD, then this probably has your name on it. I can remember when that and "Minx" were three figure CDs. Rubellan is right - "Desire" is a lush album of great beauty…with a pair of pop cover tunes that are okay, but definitely spoil the mood. Still, when it's on… wow.

I have the Edsel remasters of Minx and Love Is The Law from
2005. Wondering if they’ll use the same remasters for Minx or not? Also Echo Beach (Surf Mix) was made available for free from Toyah’s website some years ago which was vinyl sourced. I was able to edit it slightly on Audacity and eliminate surface noise at the beginning. I’m hoping there’s a better quality version available this time around.

Those previous reissues were on Cherry Red, not Edsel. The Desire-era rarities which were offered for free from her own website were all from vinyl, yes. I know every single track on the Solo box set has been taken directly from master tapes and nothing is vinyl sourced, which is great news. That's probably how the unreleased Desire-era track was discovered - found on the end of a master tape! A Safari Records album collection would be amazing but the catalogue has literally just been sold to Cherry Red, so it wont be coming out via Edsel/Demon, that's for sure.

I was provided 6 files from the upcoming box set for review, Echo Beach 12" was one of them. It is from a master tape.

Good news for modern man. We should remember that just because a master does not immediately manifest, that there aren't any out there to find. Time, effort, money, and chance all play into how this music becomes available.
