Gary Numan - Replicas + Pleasure Principle 2CD/2LP editions

Gary Numan - Replicas + Pleasure Principle 2CD/2LP editions

Postby profil » Thu Aug 22, 2019 3:16 am

Beggars Banquet are releasing two special titles to commemorate the legendary albums Gary Numan/Tubeway Army issued in 1979 – these editions are titled Replicas – The First Recordings, and the debut under his own name, The Pleasure Principle – The First Recordings (Release Date 11 October 2019).

While both of these albums have remained in print, these releases concentrate on the early recordings made prior to the completed albums and present the evolution of the albums. The tracks have been sequenced as they appeared on the original tapes and the audio has been taken from the high resolution digital transfers made by John Dent in 2007. One of the Freerange studio tapes suffered irreparable print through damage on two tracks so they were not used in the 2009 release. However an alternative source has been located so the tapes can now be presented as complete for this release.

The other day I was wondering which tracks/versions are already on Replicas Redux (2008) which I have. Or are they all new and unique versions never before released? Anyone?

Apart from those marked * from The Pleasure Principle in the above post, and possibly a different version of Down In The Park (though it's not clear), they're all on the Redux sets.

How many times can Beggars reissue these records? Considering how deep their catalogue is it's ridiculous that they seen stuck in a permanent Gary Numan/The Cult reissue program. Work on a Wolfgang Press box set or something

I wish they'd go further into the Numan archive beyond the 1979 albums.
I'd love to have similar expanded sets with demos etc for Telekon, Dance, I Assassin and Warriors.

I was amazed Numan didn't release a redux edition of "Telekon" at the same time as "Replicas" and "The Pleasure Principle".

I wonder why "We Are So Fragile" (the B-side to Are 'Friends' Electric? ) is not included?

Perhaps there isn't an alternative version

Well, all non-LP tracks are included in these two sets. "We are so fragile" is a B-side, not on the LP, so it should have been included, considering all other B-sides are included. I actually think they forgot it!

RE: Pleasure Principle First recordings

Has anyone noticed a problem on track 8 of disc 2 (Engineers outtake Mix)? At around 3'19" the track stop, you hear the tape speeding up for a couple of seconds then the track resume. Has Beggars Banquet acknowledged that? Is that on purpose?
