Toyah - Safari albums on Cherry Red

Toyah - Safari albums on Cherry Red

Postby dlgladwin » Fri Feb 07, 2020 3:55 am

Just read Toyah's blog post for February 2020. She indulges in her usual gushing enthusiasm, mentions the forthcoming Toyah Solo box set and the vinyl release of those albums, but then, right near the end, tells us this:

"Cherry Red are gearing up plans re-release the Safari Toyah albums and are being super helpful re-addressing a draconian contract written up in 1978, which did the artists no favours."

Toyah's March blog is now up, in which she tells us:

"There has been a very positive meeting with Cherry Red Records, who now own my first 7 albums. Cherry Red want these albums out in the wider world and fully exploited which will be the first time over quite a few decades."

More from Toyah's Blog:

"Cherry Red will have SHEEP FARMING IN BARNET ready before the end of the year. Craig Astley has discovered hidden gems in the Safari storage boxes including the original VICTIMS OF THE RIDDLE vocal improvisation. Craig and Alan Sawyers have put an incredible artwork package together. More news is coming soon."

I have the Great Expectations and some of the Cherry Red issues, but I never got the expanded "Toyah! Toyah! Toyah!" or "Warrior Rock." Will look into getting the live sets.

Mayhem will not be reissued, the songs will be scattered across the various releases.

Yes, I half-expected that. Not least because of Toyah's reference to her "first 7 albums".

Mayhem has more older material, though. Even the CD reissue [with much-improved sound on the second pressing, courtesy of Rubellan] didn't add very much from the post Blue Meaning period.

So hopefully the extras on the later albums will include some previously unreleased material.
