R.I.P. Florian Schneider / Kraftwerk - "The Telephone Call"

Postby Gazebo Music » Wed May 06, 2020 7:45 pm

A sad day for the Electronic Music world as Florian Schneider, co-founder of Kraftwerk has died at the age of 73.

In honor of Florian / Kraftwerk, I am posting my recently remastered English 12" of "The Telephone Call" (Remix) as featured on Digital 80's Volume 52 in WAV format. To my knowledge, this Mix has sadly never been officially released on cd.

Enjoy

Paolo

The death of Florian Schneider should be front page international news.

When some hip-hop/rap underground "artist" dies in a car crash, it's in the news for over a week.

Florian Schneider, founding member of Kraftwerk along with Ralf Hütter,
the influence is seen and heard in many genres of music and also music related culture.
Early break-dancers (Late 70's-80's) developed moves to Kraftwerk music.
Early Hip-Hop/Electro/Rap modeled the syncopated beats of Kraftwerk (This style is still used today)
Early Hip-Hip hits used Kraftwerk' music along with funk and soul to build the foundation of hip-hop/rap music.

Many of the presets on modern synthesizers were derived from sounds Kraftwerk made by the use of early synthesizers that used patch cables/cords.

If you take the music of Kraftwerk and combined it with either Bowie or Brian Ferry style vocals you have 70's/80's New Wave/Synth-pop

If you think of how many derivatives of Dance and Electronic music have been influenced by Kraftwerk's music
they are easily in the top 20 all-time influential music artists of the 20th century.

Couldn't agree more Chuck50!!! Too many bands / artists to mention have been influenced by Kraftwerk! The number of songs that used Kraftwerk samples is endless, both new and old! Here are just a few! See if you can hear the samples!

Coldplay, "Talk"
Miley Cyrus, "Dooo It"
My Morning Jacket, "Believe (Nobody Knows)"
Dr. Dre feat. Jay-Z, "Under Pressure"
The Chemical Brothers, "Leave Home"
New Order, “Blue Monday”
LCD Soundsystem, “Get Innocuous!”
Ciara, “Promise”
Gesaffelstein, “Control Movement”
Busta Rhymes feat. Pharrell Williams, “Light Your A-- on Fire”
Afrika Bambaataa & Soulsonic Force, “Planet Rock”
JJ Fad, “Supersonic”
Egyptian Lover, “Egypt, Egypt”
The Fearless Four, “Rockin' It”
Lil B, “In a Hearst”

One of the 1990 "Der Deutche" remixes of Erasure's "Blue Savannah" blatantly and brilliantly incorporates extensive Kraftwerk bits and pieces. Also, the remix of Information Society's "How Long" features the melody (I believe played, not sampled) from "Pocket Calculator". Just 2 of my favorite remixes that pop into mind. Curious to what extent the band were ever compensated, if at all, for any of the vast numbers of samples others have used to enhance their own recordings.

Thank You for this Paulo, I had no idea this remix existed, unless it was on the original 12 Inch vinyl that was released at the time.

there's several versions:
the english 12 inch had the english mix, and the german edit, and dub
https://www.discogs.com/Kraftwerk-The-T ... ease/32246

the german 12 inch had the german mix, the english edit, and dub
https://www.discogs.com/Kraftwerk-Der-T ... ase/116131

the dub and edit appeared on the Catalogue CD remastered.

the extended english and german mixes have not.
