If anyone's interested, I actually got a reply back from the Timothy Gassen from Jacket Weather. He said that the 7" I got is from the band's 'middle period' and that they have unreleased demos from before and after it was released, which he has been compiling in hopes of releasing them on cd some time. He also said that he doesn't know what labels (if any) to approach with his music. I actually have a few small labels that I can think of suggesting to him (The Prids' label, Luminal, for instance); does anyone else have any ideas?

Also, I have one more song to share before this weekend, by the ultimate synthpunk band, Nervous Gender. Primitive new wave synths and punk attitude, what a delectable combination!

I didn't need to hear that... sorry, but that was pretty horrible.

Well, I guess you can't please everyone all the time, etc. I probably should have mentioned that the Nervous Gender song is definitely not for everyone.

But here are some good songs! I recently found a compilaiton of Brighton-based bands called "Paper Boats in Puddles", which is one of the best comps I've heard. As far as I know, only one band (Jesus Couldn't Drum) ever released anything outside of this comp. Here are the songs from just one side of the record:

This Colour: In Sapphire Blue (awesome post-punk/C86 in the stlye of Chameleons UK, Echo, etc...)
(link expired)

The Little Legends: The Body Bank (weird but great gothic electro-surf-rockabilly. Look it up, it's a real genre!)
(link expired)

The Rev: Tiny Tinny Radio (absolutely wonderful minimal/cold synthpop)
(link expired)

Jesus Couldn't Drum: Captain Scarlet (cheesy and immensely catchy synth-heavy new wave about a space captain)
(link expired)

Queue Dance: My Heart Belongs to Daddy (This may not exactly belong here, but it's a great cover of the classic Cole Porter tune)
(link expired)

And this last song comes from a split CD I found. It was a private pressing from 1989, and has no title. The band who performed this song is Chameleon Circus, and it's a great, dark, gothic synth tune called Dementia Black.

Tiny Tinny Radio reminds me of John Cooper Clarke.

Thank goodness, we can reply now! Here are a few new rips!

Ian North: Sex Lust You
This guy made some great synthpop, and the EP Rape of Orchids, which this song can be found on, is his pinnacle.
(link expired...)

Croox: Ain't Got Time to Leave
This is some cool, quirky Neu Deutsche Welle (German New Wave) from 1979, off an album called "A".
(link expired...)

Nullset: Unisphere
New Jersey synth/bass/percussion trio play keyboard-laden new wave, off an EP produced by Matt Pinfield. Admit it, his 120 Minutes was the only reason you watched MTV into the 90s!
(link expired...)

Servants: The Sun, a Small Star
I think I've seen these guys mentioned here before, so I have a feeling that some people are going to ask me for the rest of the songs from this EP. I ripped the entire EP, so let me know if you want more! Anyway, these guys were on the original C86 tape, and this song is pure 80s indie pop bliss.
(link expired...)

I Shook Hands: It's Just the Way
This is one of my favorite recent acquisitions - dancey DIY synthpop from New Jersey. The cover has creepy clowns on it, which is the only reason I bought it. BTW, doesn't it sound like he's singing with a mouth full of cotton?

White Gardens from Rape of Orchids is also a great song. Ian's earlier stuff was not really anywhere near as good as this effort.

*edit* forgot to add the I Shook Hands track is great!

Thanks again Goutry - I really like that you're doing this.
The I Shook Hands song is great, but honestly - I absolutely love the Servants' - The Sun a Small Star! I'll probably listen to that about 100 times tomorrow.
I'd like to hear more from them. I love that sound.

Goutroy,

What a great track! Thanks! I was wondering if it was just my headphones, or if the lead singer was Elmer Fudd!!!

Darkwave: email me if you still need the Servants song and I can send it your way.

Anyway, due to popular demand, I'll be including a few B Sides to previous rips!

I Shook Hands: Some Day I'll Be Gone (well, actually, this is the A-Side...)
link expired...

Experimental Products: Glowing in the Dark (classic 1983 synthpop, and it's recently been reissued with a new remix)
link expired...

The Servants: It Takes No Gentleman (I like this almost as much as The Sun a Small Star... almost)
link expired...

Android: My Love is Like a Shooting Star (this is off a weird album from 1982 made by 3 LA synth geeks who, by their appearances - shaved heads and matching space-age outfits - worshipped the ground that Kraftwerk walked upon.)
link expired...

Carol and Snowy Red: Breakdown (someone asked for this in a different thread, so I thought I'd let people hear it... enjoy!)
link expired...

That's it for now...

Thanks a lot, I really like I Shook Hands and Android. If you get other songs by them online, let me know. Or if you get them shared in the hub, I can get them there.
