Woodentops were an amazing band! Their albums were recently remastered and rereleased with bonus tracks (but unfortunately not some of their great 12" remixes, like "Good Thing" or the 7" extended remix of the classic "Move Me"). There's also a fine Japanese Greatest Hits CD released last year.

Speaking of WLIR, one of their old DJ's, Maxx, has compiled a list of almost everything they ever played. There are about 3200 songs on there. He also has the full Screamer/Shreek list available in both chronological order and alphabetical order. You can get it from him at classicwlir_wdre@hotmail.com.

WLIR was a great station during a great time in music. As a LIR listener I felt like I was part of something special, it was sad the way it all ended. I never again found that feeling in any radio station, anywhere in the country. I remember being backstage with The David Bromberg Band at LIR's Party in the Park over (24?) years ago, wow I'm getting old. I miss going to "My Father's Place" for a live concert and being so close you could feel the bands energy. I remember hanging around Roslyn one day and Eppy asked my friend and I if we could roadie for that nights band (David Johansen), he gave us a few bucks and let us stay for the show. It was great to find this forum and reminisce with you all. I'm sure we've bumped in to each other once or twice at some club during WLIR's hey day so sorry if I spilled my drink on you.

Does anyone remember WVHC out at hofstra ? postpunk pop party show on late nights... they played all the stuff before WLIR got around to playing them ...I bought an amplfier and roof antenna system for $200 so I could reach the station from my NYC digs...I believe some of the DJ's worked LIR in the Mid 80's ....by the way, WHTG was also excellent and in some ways better since WLIR started leaning toward pure dance acts (probably since so many of the DJ's sidelined as club jocks) but WHTG in NJ stayed more true to the New Wave / Indie scene (7 inch mixes, tapes and vinyl still got airplay)..in fact WHTG, while under new ownership still plays the alternative, while WLIR is passing on....p.s. ex LIR jock Malibu Sue is selling her old stuff on ebay these days

wow, what a great site, message board and thread. I grew up across the sound from long island in SW connecticut and listened to LIR faithfully every night from about '84 to '87. at about the same time I got more into the punk and hardcore scene and spent the next 15 or so years playing in bands, but WLIR was always blasting in my bedroom, on my shitty little boom box, between the black flag and dead kennedy's tapes. I know that LIR/DRE has recently become a latin station, which is a heartbreaker. there was a recent article in the new york post about WLIR's hayday and world renowned influence. 94.3, also an island station and plays some of the more commercial 80's stuff but unfortunately mixes it with newer stuff. does anybody know of a good web-based new wave station? if there isn't one, this board is proof that it would be a huge success.

I'm reviving this topic because I happened to find it in a search and I love the idea of the list that was posted here. Thank you so much, ook! I've already found a couple of old favorites I totally forgot about. [:D]

Great thread, especially for those who were not familiar with 'LIR.

Yes, I did go to Hockeybirds sale more then once. He had 1000's of records. I bought about 30 items. (along with an autographed APB albumn)
I was there with one other person who was actually buying stuff for the Mighty Maximizer.
I don't know what he did with all those records after his sale. He said he was going to bring them to a thrift shop.
