What's IN Hollywood or Vegas?

Postby Ollie Stench » Wed Nov 23, 2005 7:54 am

I'm going to be visiting friends in Hollywood Dec. 8-11, and Las Vegas 11-13. Anything going on I should know about?

Vegas: Prostitution is legal.*
Hollywood: Prostitution is illegal, but is rampant and encouraged.*

Try not to confuse those facts when visiting wither place.

* I do not know this from personal experience; only from what I've heard. [:D]

EDIT: Gawd, not only am I misinformed, but I also cannot spell! That should read: Try not to confuse those facts when visiting either place.

Wither place! Really!

I absolutley loved Vegas. I didn't think I would, as I never thought of myself as a big gambler. You can now add that to my never-ending list of vices.

Vegas is just over the top spectacle. I initially resisted it, but found it was much more fun to "ooooohhh & ahhhh" with the rest of the tourists. Check out the lobby of Luxor while you're there - it's amazing.

Notice how Wolverine skipped the part about the prostitutes? It's a dirty secret which we never discuss anymore...

I am not the kind of wolverine who pays attention to streetwalkers & affiliated tradespersons.

Check out the booklets that people shove at you on every corner. They're catalogs of hookers.

Actually I believe prostitution is illegal in LV (?Clark County). However it is legal everywhere else in Nevada.[:p]

Casino Buffets... GO TO THE Casino Buffets.. they charge a mere pittance for the endless supply of wonderous food.

Hey... wait a minute!.. isn't this a NNNW post?

C'mon Ollie, I promise they won't bite 'cha over there![;)]

In all seriousness, in Vegas, I'm sure you can catch Sheena Easton and What's-His-Name Cassidy doing a show together at the Rio. They've been at it for the last 8 years. And (quel surprise!) Celine Dion will shriek her shrillness at you from some casino.

Try this: http://www.vegas.com/

It's updated regularly! Have fun!

Oh, you're right. I just checked. But it SEEMS like it should be legal in Vegas.

Hollywood has gotten particularly cheesey these days...Hollywood Blvd is all t-shirt shops and tattoo parlors. That's okay if that's your style but the only hint of old Hollywood glamor is a few graffiti-covered murals scattered about.

An example of the stupidity of the city council - several years ago they decided to glamorize the Blvd by paving the road with glitter mixed into the tar. The result was a very filthy sparkling street. There's also a really bad chromed statue at one end.

The result is sort of like draping tinsel over a garbage can.

Randall, the more I read your posts, the more I like you. I especially like your line: "The result is sort of like draping tinsel over a garbage can."

I think that line pretty much sums up all of Los Angeles AND Las Vegas.

We go to Vegas about once a year and yes there is a seadier side but it's easily overlooked. If you bring the family warn them about taking any literature from the porno boys lurking on the walkways. If anyone else has been there, they know what I mean.

AH Hell do I know that! My girlfriend and I made the mistake one Saturday night of trying to walk from the Venetian to the New York. Not only is it godawful longer than it looks the entire way people were smacking flyers into my hands.

But I love Vegas...gimme a big casino with the colors and sounds. With my money I become like Ralphie with a new Range Rider in his hands!
