Lotsa great choices. My paltry submissions:
Dion - Abraham, Martin & John
Buffalo Springfield - For What It's Worth
Nick Drake - River Man
Love - Alone Again Or
The Doors - Break on Through
Jimi Hendrix - Little Wing
The Moody Blues - Forever Afternoon (Tuesday...)
Blind Faith - Can't Find My Way Home
Iron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida
Led Zeppelin - Babe I'm Gonna Leave You
David Bowie - Space Oddity
Procol Harum - Whiter Shade of Pale
Yes - Survival
Roberta Flack - The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face
Cream - Badge
Gerry & the Pacemakers - Ferry Cross the Mersey
Miles Davis - Concerto de Aranjuez
Vince Guaraldi Trio - Christmas Time Is Here
William Shatner - Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Fortunate Son
The Youngbloods - Let's Get Together
Simon & Garfunkel - Homeward Bound
I guess more of a latter 60s bent. However great the British Invasion was, I think it paled to the amazing inventiveness in Rock, Blues, Folk and Soul that took place after it.
The most chilling song for me is that last one. I heard it being played on our ride aboard a C-141 coming back from Okinawa and Taiwan on the way back to Travis AFB, full of wounded and sick Vietnam soldiers including my father. John Denver's Take Me Home Country Roads was also played. It was the early 70s but it's kinda my lasting memory of the 60s in an odd way. Huge chills every time.
Whoa, I didn't realize this was such an old thread.
