Thank you for sharing, recently found that Billy Mackenzie had covered the 1967 (British) hit single 'Kites' by Simon Dupree and the Big Sound . Some of the group later went on to form Gentle Giant.
A great cover version of a gorgeous song

Currently enjoying this. The sequencing of the material on the three discs by Steve Angle is expert! The "Winter Academy" material in particular, has a flow to it that really works like a fiend. In spite of it being mostly piano ballads on the face of it. The new material is great [barring one track that veers close to handbag] and this is the definitive package of this late MacKenzie material.

A great collection, yes, but there are some missing tracks, such as Backstreet Luv, Gender Illusionist, Outerpol & Stay Pure.

I've heard "Outerpol." I thought it was a throwaway; best forgotten. How about the other three?

They are all vocal and more melodic. I see no reason why they would be excluded, other than "master tapes not found".
(Outerpol was available officially for a while as a free download)

I heard "Outerpol" at the Whippet At The Wheel site. I had no idea it was officially released in any capacity.

You can also tell because the sound quality is excellent. The other unreleased tracks don't have that quality.

PS just like I did after the release of the "PERHAPS" double CD two years ago, I will share what I have from these sessions after the CD comes out.
Because it MAY be that some of the tracks I have, are indeed on this triple CD but with a different title, and i want to make sure I don't share anything on it.

I must admit that I was completely baffled when I finally heard this release.

I had no knowledge about Billys solo releases after cca Wild & Lonely era, so I guess this really took me by surprise.

I thought the first disc was absolutely amazing.
Wonderful songs all the way and breathtaking vocal performances by Billy.

For some reason, I thought disc two was going to continue along similar route, but it surely did not.
This was really hard to listen to and I didnt enjoy it at all.

Disc three is somewhat back on track with lovely songs, but only satisfying to a degree.

I guess his collaborative work with S.Aungle is varied after all and note all (more or less) piano ballads,
which would have probably been my preferred choice.

He had three solo albums planned, one with ballads, one with edgier dance music, and one with.. well what you hear on CD 3.
So, hence this division, in CDs and in style.
