Bands that you wished had a full-length album

Postby LaidInRuins » Fri Apr 23, 2021 3:30 pm

Hoping this might spur some new discoveries from the catalogue of vinyl obscurity. Which bands do you enjoy most that only had a few singles or a mini-EP, never a full-length album, but for which you wish they had one. That is, which bands have too painfully short a tracklist?

For me the immediate ones are always

Box of Toys: two extremely strong singles, and Brian Atherton's later stuff as The Light can't help but leave me wanting more.
This Fear: Darkness Shapes Imagination is an excellent EP, the lead singer's vocals being the highlight.
Midnight Call: Enough tracks scraping around on various releases to imagine what a full album might have been, this is a terrific dark wave band.
Illustrated Man: Not quite a supergroup, but the EP was very solid.
Rapture of the Deep: Madame Nothing, Watching the Fireworks, and Waiting are all great from their EP.
Voice of America: Again, strong singles.
This Other Eden: Face of An Angel, Teach Me To Cry, a real audio treat.

What a great topic......and as soon as I saw the title of the topic I immediately thought of Brian Atherton and his amazing single Contrasting Strangers by his project The Light. Precious Is The Pearl from Box Of Toys is also exceptional.
What are the chances of thinking of the same obscure band when there is such an abundance of rare / obscure one single bands out there....?

My next suggestion would be:

Impulse - Act On Impulse / The Prize - two amazing singles

This Island Earth (who had the single “take me to the fire”)

The Bodysnatchers (early 2-tone act, all female)

Agreed, good topic! Haven’t posted in a long time—

Both of their singles were excellent indeed.

What a great topic

Couple of my faves who had just a handful of songs collected on an EP:

Play (Wayne Kennedy & David Rome)
Near Paris (Gerald F. Nelson and Dana Riashi)

EPs in question both are available to stream free on Medical Records!

Some great suggestions here, including some I hadn't hear of.

Freeze Frame also deserves a mention I think. Touch, Foxhole, Seeking Professional Advice, all very solid and somewhat unique sounding. Remind me a little of English Evenings.

The Bernhardts - lots of promise there. Would love to hear a full length LP.

Even a Steve Hopkins compilation of his works would be nice to have.
