Coincidentally, I'm in San Diego that day and the Beat are playing the Belly Up that night in Solana Beach. Anyone local game?

The Belly Up is a great place to see a show. The acoustics are pretty damn good so you can look forward to a great sounding show.

Have fun.

This Memorial Day Weekend in SoCal has been fantastic so far. 91X's Top 100 Bands of All Time and KROQ's top 500 Most Requested of All Time countdowns have been the perfect soundtrack for this weekend. Friday's English Beat concert, in the context of being in old places with old music, was super special as well. Dave Wakeling is such a live and positive presence, you just can't help but be in a happy, party mood around him. Big kudos to him.

The most poignant moment of the night however came on the next to last song of his main set. We stopped to remember Ian Copeland, discussed his funeralthat was just this past Tuesday in LA, and how they had to find a venue twice as big with the flood of attendees who wanted to pay their respects. Then he led into a awesomely touching rendition of his own "Never Die"...perfect...

Said we would never die
but what did we know
Taken away me and now
how I miss you so
But no I won't never cry
'cos I promised to
just get the best out of life
I'll do it for me, I'll do it for you
So when I'm sick and tired
When I'm up and wired
I know exactly what to do
I cast my gaze above
Thank God for all that love
And then thank God that I'm not you.
Said we would never die
Said we would never die
and maybe it's true
Said we would never die
I loved you to death
What would I choose to say to you
with my parting breath?
Say "beauty is always sad"
but that's in the past
Just try to live your life like
each day is your first and each day is your last.
And when you're sick of trying
Just sit right down and cry
Sometimes it's all that you can do
Cast your gaze above
Thank God for all that love
as I thank God that I found you
Said we would never die
Said we would never die
Now lets pray that it's true

Unbelievable Blir, I was in LaJolla for my son's soccer tournament, saw the Weekly Reader late Friday afternoon, saw the concert listed and debated going, and decided not to! Unfortunately, I left my computer home so I didn't check NWO! Sounds like fun!

Who is in the English Beat these days? I noticed they're playing not too far away and thought I might go.
