Just caught them tonight in Minneapolis. I wasn't really super amped to see them at first. I really hadn't yet made my judgment about whether they were for real or pastiche.

HOLY FUCKING CRAP!!!!!!!

These guys are for freaking real. As soon as they started their set, my buddy and I just looked at eachtother, mouthing "holy fucking crap!" They were a tower of pure rock and roll essence tonight. If lead singer Tom Smith wasn't the the all-consumed David Gahan-channeling narcissist, maybe he couldn't have pulled this act off. If Chris Urbanowitch wasn't the supremely self-confident lead guitarist with his insanely piercing riffs and Ian Curtis-like self-possession, maybe they'd just be posers. But wow, are they truly for freaking real. I'm utterly impressed. Very hard to pick a highight from this start to finish tour de force - maybe 'All Sparks' for me. This is a show not to missed. You will not be disapointed.


PS. Opening band Rah Rah Riot from Syracuse(!) were really entertaining as well. Maybe it was their sorta Arcade Fire Lite music or maybe it was their very luscious violinist and crazy smokin' chellist, either way, I'd catch them again if I saw them come around locally.

Just this morning a friend told me about yet another disappointing concert by Interpol at Madison Square Garden this past Saturday. I just don't understand how a band with plenty of experience by now can still be so stiff in concert. I'm ready to give my modern post-punk mantle to Editors instead. But of course, I was just bashing Editors for not sounding unique enough just a couple montsh ago...so just ignore me completely.

Actually I just want them to re-create their original recordings as closely as possible.

I would never pay to see a band like Interpol play an arena.
The Editors are far enough under the radar that they will be playing a club this time around and hopefully I can make the trip to Seattle to see them.

Regarding Interpol, I saw them twice on the last tour and they were great. I am passing this time, as they are playing a bigger hall, with songs that aren't quite as good as the last time around.

Blir, your review of the Editors show was dead on. I also have to give props to the opening band Ra Ra Riot. We pegged them as ska with a touch of Irish music thrown in...and they were a blast!

And of course Editors were amazing. It was kind of shocking catching such a big sounding band in a small club; it reminded me of the reviews I have read of U2's early club shows on the boy tour.

Awesome...I was worried that I'd oversold it and it was just the tequilas talking. From what some Brit acquiantances say, their live sound has really grown since their first go-round in '05. Listening to their albums on my 'pod, I'm in fact really craving more of their bigger live sound. I'm also just now reminded a bit of Big Country in their high-chord guitar work, only edgier.

Yeah...they are a great modern sounding band, but also remind me of the great twin guitar bands I saw live in the 80's, such as Big Country and the Church. And I love the new album more every time I listen to it.

They are on Jay Leno tonight (September 21 2007).

This was a damned fine performance considering the usually anemic talk show sound...
