Yeah, two groups I picked up on from adverts were
Hooverphonic: Renaissance Affair was on some VW Bug commercial
Telepopmusik: Breathe was on a Mitsubishi car commercial

Totally agree with this. Even just two channel PCM, it would be an improvement over CD-DA. But of course, people would cry that it should be 5.1, since it is on DVD, and not buy the disc. Shame that DVDPlus and DualDiscs never took off.

Before DVDPlus and DualDiscs, there were two OTHER DVD-based audio formats, SACD (Super Audio CD) and DVD-A (DVD-audio).
Both formats offered the option of super-high resolution stereo audio and/or 5.1 surround mixes.

High resolution consumer audio products were offered to the consumer, and the consumer rejected both formats, preferring the ease and convenience (and price) of crappy sounding MP3s over the quality of SACD or DVD-A.

Yeah, but SACD requires a special player to get better than CD-DA quality, and DVD-A isn't "backwards compatible" with CD-DA.

Shame that only a few companies (such as Pioneer) who made DVD players made them SACD compatible. And of course, Sony, in all their greatness, didn't feel like supporting their own format on their BR-D players.

Highly doubtful. As the most accomplished musician among them there was always a bit of tension supposedly mostly between he and Gore. Plus, the Mode have a strict democratic policy in terms of pay. They all get an equal share. Wilder believed that each should get paid according to their contribution. Never gonna happen.
