I'm not sure if everyone knows who The Egyptian Lover is, but in short he is an L.A. DJ/Producer who took the early Electro sound (Kraftwerk meets Afrika Bambaataa) and ran with it...had a (minor) hit in 1983 with "Egypt, Egypt"...very minimal, and his music fits into my (relatively broad) definition of New Wave...

anyway, I received an invitation to a place called 'The Habitat' here in San Diego for an Egyptian Lover show. It was through MySpace® and an 'invite only affair'. so I get to the address expecting to find a 'club', but was shocked to find that it was just somebodys house. there was about 120 people there and it turned out to be pretty gosh darn fun --- The Egyptian Lover started with his DJ set, including his obvious influences (Kraftwerk "Computer World"/"Numbers"/"Tour De France etc, Soulsonic Force, Afrika, Cybotron)

He played a few originals too, but really he sounds so much like his influences that the "live" stuff meshed with the spun stuff....loved when he fired up his 808 drum machine (the sound which pretty much defined the early electro sound ---ie: Mann Parish, Nucleus, Cybotron, Freestyle)

....the SD underground kids in the know were going crazy dancing...I am old enough that I was dancing to "Egypt, Egypt" in 1983 (!). It was nice to see a hero and influence of mine (in 2002 I "borrowed" a sample from of "egypt, Egypt" for a remix of a ROTATOR song called - 'Stereo Vibrator' (see below)...

I met Greg (The Egyptian Lover) for about a second...he seemed a little distracted, if not pissed that he was doing a house party (I'm not sure how he got paid, as I didnt see anybody collecting money, and nobody really appeared to be running the show...)

That was one of the more interesting events I've been to in awhile ---just thought I'd share[:)] Thanks!

He's making his rounds around the club circuit...
He's one of my heroes also...would have loved to see him in a small setting like that, just to watch him work.

By the way nice share[:D]! Jammin it right now[:p]!

That's cool. I just got into EL a few years ago, but really like what he's done.
