In Cleveland late April...House of Blues (where I saw Thomas Dolby and the Pretenders). Missed them way back but me and my friends decided that we will go to any NW acts that come within earshot. So far we have seen:

Devo
Dave Wakelings "English Beat"
Thomas Dolby
The Pretenders

I don't know if I would go to see them again. Saw them in the early 90's after their last album came out and around the time of the horrid Flintstones song. They had no rapport with the audience, didn't say much or do an encore.

I bought my tickets for the Cleveland show yesterday. I will be there with my sister and her beau. I've seen the B's twice before; the first with The Go Go's and Psychedelic Furs, the next we all had front row center seats for a headline show by the water several years ago. At that show you could see Fred wanted to strangle a somewhat drunk Cindy as she flubbed the words to a song. They probably really hate each other under all that party music fun!

Hey, I might have seen you there! What a great show this was. They played a good size set list, and had a good amount of energy (for being old coots). This was my 3rd time seeing them live, and they never disappoint. I purchased one of the surprisingly high quality 'Funplex' shirts (for $30!), and sported it at work the following day. A great album and a great show. The venue sold out so it was packed, though I think my sister was the only one dressed oddball. She was wearing a 1950's light green fluorescent dress and red fishnet stockings. She looked quite the part. I had my B-52's shirt from the 2000 tour, but most other people appeared to dress either casual, or even a bit formal. It didn't seem too many people were familiar with the new songs, though I didn't hesitate to bounce and clear room around me with flailing intimidation. A very pleasant evening. Kate's voice was top notch, though it does sound Cindy is struggling a bit, especially with the upper register, though she was still great. Fred was his usual amusing self, and he seems to take what he does very seriously, yet has fun with it. Keith looked as if he was as happy as he could be, regularly sporting and excited smile like a kid at Christmas. The BONUS was Tracy Wormworth on bass, who was the original bassist in one of my New Wave faves, The Waitresses.
Here are the songs they played, though not in order. I'm still disappointed they never touch songs from Whammy or Satellites, but maybe one day...:

I think I saw your sister! Place was packed and concert was really good but I had one complaint....a whole row (against the rail in the balcony) was reserved for the disabled which is totally fine with me. I have no problems with that but when the whole row was full of women who were drunk and flailing their arms around, inviting their friends up against the rail with them, I then have a problem.

I'm sorry but if you can venture out to a club in downtown Cleveland where the street in front of the HOB was completely torn up for repair making it difficult for anyone to get there, get totally drunk and dance about like a Solid Gold dancer...then you are not disabled. I got smacked in the nuts by a drunk, dancing, disabled woman who was pretty trashed. These women were not disabled in the slightest sense of the word unless being an idiot drunk qualifies as disabled.

Other than that, the show was great.


UPDATE: It turns out that the women were breast cancer survivors. Good for them but, I don't feel as though they were disabled to the extent that warranted special seating.

The Bs will be on the Today show May 26th; that means they will perform free in Rockefeller Plaza (7-11AM).
