They will be performing on Nov 5th in Las Vegas @ The Canyon Club, I cannot wait. Anyone ever see them? Rankin Roger isn't with them anymore is he?

Today's English Beat is basically Dave Wakeling with a new backing band, but they do play a solid set of Beat tunes, and a couple of Gen Pub songs. I've seen them a handful of times dating back to 1998, and they've been good most of the time. The one tour I didn't like was about 5 years ago, when Dave toured with a guitarist and DJ (a full band was too expensive at the time, according to his fan forum). It was an uninspired show, and my friends and I jokingly refer to that tour as English Beat Karaoke. He came back a couple of years ago and played a beer festival at the Phoenix Zoo (with The Fixx), and he had the full band again (with sax player, very important).

Dave likes to play that annoying cover of "I'll Take You There" (I think the '90s Chevy commercial really killed that one for good for me), otherwise he and the band generally put on a very good show. Ranking Roger is not with the band.

I just saw them a few months ago, and they were great-- the whole place was jumping. True, there was no ranking roger, but the band was on fire and the sound was perfect. If you do a search, you'll find a report of that concert and the setlist. I'd see them again in a heartbeat.

They are still Skankin' to the beat... no pun intended...

Las time I saw them the crowd was into them and Dave and crew sounded great! I'd see them aain, and again! One of the bands I've seen more than any other band by now...

Hopefully my description doesn't read as a negative review. I do love this band (I Just Can't Stop It is such a classic), and always try to catch them live when they're in town. I definitely recommend them; the English Beat Karaoke tour was a flukey exception. They do have great energy and crowd response at every show.

Not at all bud, you gave your honest opinion on the show/band. I will go see them regardless.

That might be worth a road trip. I saw them in Salt Lake in 2006, without RR and they were fantastic. Wakeling talked about bringing him back on board but I don't know if that's happened or not. Should be a great show.
