Just like Fantastic Four, it didn't do much for me. In keeping perhaps with the Christopher Reeves' [xx(] Superman (1 & 2), the movie was fun but the characters were too 2-dimensional for me, not to mention stooopid!! I mean c'mon, Superman disappears for a few years and so does Kent. Then Superman returns [:0] and Kent goes back to the Daily Planet. When Superman dies, people don't ask where the hell Kent went. And no *!$^@!$ body has any inkling that they're one and the same - except of course the kid. And there were too many cutesy scenes.

Give me X-men any day.

IMO since I'm a Superman fan, it was great! but i do agree somewhat with darwinsky about some of the obvious questions but it's flippin Superman!and with all the mytho involved you have to take some of the elements with a grain of salt. The effects were fantactic and it was a little darker than the earlier adaptations but not nearly as dark as X-men(s) or even batman begins. It's well worth seeing especialy if you like superman.

Oh, yeah. Totally agree. The special effects really rock - not too flashy or anything (I didn;t get to watch in IMAX, though). Just right to convince you that that's really how it must be if there really was a superman.

And hexicon, although i'm straight, i can usually admit when a guy is cute or not. And believe me, there are scenes where Mr. Routh is just too cute for comfort (even the missus agrees). But he's a capable successor to Mr. Reeves [xx(]

Just saw it. As a fairly big DC and Supes fan, I'm pretty biased. It was a good movie, but the fanboy in me wanted more action. Still The action scenes that were there rocked. When the point-blank shot bullet bounces off Superman's eye--that was pretty cool.
I know Singer was shooting for more of a mature drama, and I think this largely suceeded. Routh does a great job as Supes. As Clark he channeled Chris Reeves to the point of being, well, kinda creepy[:p]

So it was a good movie and I'm glad I saw it, but I must admit to looking much more forward to the sequel---hoping for a Mogul or Doomsday throwdown..

I'll say it again too: with the CGI I saw it at Supes Returns it is past time the suits at the WB got off their butts and made a Justice League movie

Ok, turning Nerd channel off now...[:D]

Geek alert!

I think in part 2 he should meet Metallo. It keeps Lex in the story and does not get too far out there. Or an all out with Brainiac!

I think he should battle it out with Bizarro Jerry, Kramer & George.

I hadn't thought about Metallo, Philly--that would be a good adversary.

Just as its not the Toyman or Mxyplyzyk--that would be too cutsey for words...

Blir, done right Bizzaro Jerry has great possibilites:

Action . . . special effects . . . a really bony Lois Lane . . . I can't offer any intelligent commentary because I didn't see anything except . . . Alex Kapranos move over, I have a new crush! Next time he better take his shirt off. He wuz wearing blue contacts though.
