Cassette to PC

Time to help the dumb guy. Finding some ond taped cassettes with songs I've never heard (other when I taped them) Makes me want to preserve them before they get destroyed. How do I get cassette to PC? (Without spending lots o moola?)

You can d/load a free program called Audacity.It's very simple to use.

It's been a while since i've done this.You will need a dual rca to mini jack cable.Plug the rca's to the "line out" on your cassette deck.Then the mini plug(sometimes referred to as 1/8 or 3.5mm plug)to the "line in" of your soundcard.You'll have to check to make sure you have a "line in"..varies with on board sound and/or soundcard.

Then,you'll have to familiarize yourself with whatever software such as Audacity mentioned above and experiment.I had an outdated program once and it first converted the songs to wave format.Then,I had to re-encode them to mp3.Of course,Audacity may do this automatically but I'm not sure.

You can usually find a dual rca to mini cable at yout local Radio Shack or Best Buy.It looks like this:

I wonder if that thing can work like the classic tape drives to transfer files [:D].

I just burned a cassette to cd then to my computer and onto my I-pod,all it cost me was the price of a cd-r.It may take an extra step,but no downloading or buying of new equipment. Is that to simple?

If it did, I would buy it in a heartbeat. I <3 using cassette tapes to transfer data files. That's what I had to do from 1982-1986 until I got a disk drive.

You mean you didn't try to memorize the tones and try to sing it into the microphone? Forget learning Klingon. Learn how to speak ... well, whatever you call the crazy modem/data type of rasping. It's not a dead language either, since it will work for fax machines still [:o)].
