One of my favorite part of Halloween as a kid was trick-or-treating at my uncle's old apartment. We would go door by door also. I remember this one halloween on the way home I realized we missed a door, and I threw a big tantrum and we had to go back for it. I think the idea of trick-or-treating during the day is kind of fun. Like after school go trick-or-treating at the mall.

Ha! I was cleaning out my medicine cabinet the other day and realized I could hand out toothbrushes!

(Not quite as gross as it sounds; I use a sonicare so I have ten years' worth of regular plastic toothbrushes from my dentist piled in my cabinet.) Take that, you sugar-intoxicated little no-neck monsters!

I thought of a few ideas to spend halloween without Halloween the doorbell ringing every 5 sec. Put one of those tent things over your home. Then people will think your house is under investigation for termites. Or set up a barrier tape around your home saying Police: Do Not Cross. Or be creative. Put a sign by your driveway or front lawn saying you have to be a certain height or over 18 to Pass. Put a sign on your door saying something like we don't serve hoodlums here. Please go to the mall instead.

Am I the only one who has normal trick or treaters?
The younger kids come during the day in costume or with their parents at night. When it gets dark, it's the older kids and they are always in costume. Even many of the parents and homeowners are in costume. Last year my neighbors were Superman and Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz.
And I am one of those people who when I am gone, leaves the tupperware full of candy with the note to "take one piece please".
I do like Motors idea, it will save me some money. [}:)]

I'm just trying to figure out *WTF* with these teens that come around trick or treating without costumes? They think they're too old to have to wear a costume but are still entitled to free candy? Anybody else have this horse shit?

OK, so last night we did our anual big thing. We go over a friends house and make a huge deal and give out candy. So we come home around 7:30, which is already dark here, and I see the "urban youths" are on our block. Greeeeeeeeat. So they pass our house and we go to our door. They all run back yelling trick or treat. I turned around to see what looked like adults. Picture it, we didn't even get our keys out yet. I said can we actually get in the house first. I really hate how they ruin it for the young kids. They must have been 18 years old with no bags or anything.

Our Halloween went off pretty well.

We didn't get many trick or treaters at our house--and it's a good thing. We'd handed out about 6 suckers when the doorbell rang. My 6-year-old answered and instead of handing the five little boys at the door a sucker each, she stuck the bowl out at them so they could choose their suckers. They choose, all right. They choose nearly the entire contents of the candy bowl. They must have taken 25 suckers. At that point, we decided that since we really didn't have any more candy to hand out, maybe we'd go do our own trick or treating.

We saw the little boys about an hour later. My daughter then pointed and shrieked, "Those are the kids that jacked all our suckers!" And then I got to explain to the parents what happened. [:I]

While we were out, we saw this man--he must have been 40--zipping up and down the sidewalks on a child's scooter. He'd stuffed himself into a red Power Rangers costume and, yep, he was trick or treating. It was bizarre.

A day late I know, but where I live in PA the kids do the treatin' on the Sunday before Halloween, yep it's that backasswards in this town. We moved to PA about 5 years ago and it's been that way since, though all the neighboring towns do it right and that is on Halloween night. In my old neighborhood in NJ they would start right away, as soon as they got off the school bus they would run home and put their costumes on and begin going around the complex of about 500+ homes that doesn't include the lovely townhouses in our development either. We would always go out at night, right when it was getting dark, isn't that the way it should be done? Our Halloween spirit has quickly diminished over the years, we used to put out a scarecrow looking thing that would sit on the porch and we would stuff it with newspaper, we gave it jeans and a raggedy old shirt, I think we even used an Alien head one year with a Yankees cap, that got stolen!

It's a shame that it's not what it used to be, maybe a dying tradition? You can't leave a box of goodies outside and come home a few hours later and expect something to be left, but that is the way it has always been for as long as I can remember. Only a select few will ruin it, but for the rest of the younglings it's great to see they are having fun.

The little cun..darlings around here egg the house if the don't get what they want and eggs are a pain to remove from the paintwork without damaging it.

So next year I'll be offering them chocolate, ex-lax chocolate. [:D]

That'll keep them regular after all the other chocolate they get. [;)]
