Costco semi-justice

Here's a little Costco story for ya:

Went to Costco with Mrs Gately today. I was severely jet-lagged so I didn't freak when someone stole my empty cart near the cd section. Mrs Gately was justifiably upset. But that's just a mood-setter for what happened in the check-out line:

We were about two carts away from putting our stuff on the belt, when a guy comes up with his cart and pushes it in at an angle to block off anyone else from putting anything on the belt (including the people who had just started unloading). Turns out, his was with someone else (presumably his wife) who had just finished unloading a cart (or, two, as Mrs Gately insists). So, basically, his wife had gotten in line while he filled up another cart entirely.

The cashier saw this and told them it was unfair to everyone else in line. Then, instead of ringing them up, he waved the person forward who had been cock-blocked from putting their stuff on the belt, scanned all of their stuff in straight out of the cart, and rang them up.

That was pretty cool of the cashier, though the line cock-blockers didn't even acknowledge it. The cashier then rang the cock-blockers and their literally $1100+ worth of stuff through and apologized to us when it was our turn to be rung up.

True justice would have been if the cashier had made them wait until he was able to ring through everyone they had blocked, but at least he shoved it back at them a little bit.

Line cutters should be taken outside the stores and beaten. I love the ones that do it then ignore you when they can certainly hear me cursing them and saying things like I quess I'm not standing in line here.

Supports my theory that Costco turns people into zombies, wandering the aisles and crashing carts, muttering "Must consume . . . must consume."

My dad was there shopping but hadn't put anything in his cart yet, and this woman came up and swiped it while his back was turned. He said, "Hey lady, that's my cart!" She said "Is chivalry dead?" and walked off with it.

I must admit, we rejoined notwithstanding my aesthetic trauma (the giant SUVs, the giant stacks of merchandise, the giant butts . . . I freak out and get twitchy). [:I] I told Mr. Hex that if he wants anything there between now and Xmas, he's going by himself.
