My favorite quip...gotta agree, awful. I still get quite angry thinking about Tin Machine. Have to agree with Howard Jones too...just the most godawful thing ever even loosely associated with new wave. I rather listen to a Colourfield marathon, honestly. And get the disdain for Oingo Boingo too. Looking back, I can totally see how me and a bunch of SoCal teenage boys would love the frenetic and obnoxious energy of Oingo...but it's definitely something you outgrow. I can't say I've listened straight through a single song in several years. I'm suprised there wasn't room for Simply Red. I actually like some of their songs, but dang wouldn't you just love to bash in Mick Hucknal's face?!

Blir I know what you are saying, but Boingo still really did have some great music. A lot of was silly, with silly lyrics, but IMHO some of their music and songs were awesome, an epitome of the "New Wave" sound. Good AND fun musicianship. You have to give 'em that. No ? Bummer! But I still do.[:I]

I do give 'em that. They were wicked good fun...all 10 times or so I saw them in concert! But I can really only last about 1 minute into any Boingage now. Having said that, I'd see a real Elfman-led concert in a second.

I'm with KYYX4ever on Oingo Boingo. I still enjoy them from time to time - but yes, in smaller doses than I used to. Lots of good high-energy stuff for working out and tons of nostalgic value for me.

I can think of alot more bands I'd put in there! Dragonforce, Panic At The Disco, infact alot of metal/pop/dance bands in general in the last 5 years, bloody shite half of it is, small wonder I got into New wave and old-skool punk![xx(]

Couldn't agree more. HoJo (I even hate that fucking wanky nickname) was always an asexual, atrocious, weedy early 1970s BAD singer/songwriter inhabiting a New Wave body. I really detested his music . . . like Thomas Dolby possessed by the spirit of a quaalude addled Jim Croce.

I actually can't complain about the list much either. There are several I wouldn't have personally included (even though I'm not particularly a huge fan): Jamiroquai & Japan, and a few more I would have included.

Funny thing about music critics though - if they are so brilliant and insightful and possess a multitude of musical knowledge, why are [i]they[/i] all mebers of shitty, failing bands?

I disagree with Mike and the Mechanics (compared to late 80s and beyond Genesis with that big ego of Phil Collins ruining that band?!), Blind Melon, The Doors, Live, Japan (?!), and Oingo Boingo.

Howard Jones--that's what each of us secretly hear with our headphones--when no one's around, and I am adding to my list of future artists for the "best song" game in the cheesy category. [8D]
