When I was 12 I came home from school one day and told my parents that I wanted to play the trumpet. My mom said NO. She would not allow me to play the trumpet. She felt it was not a cool instrument. She told me I could play either the drums or guitar. I picked drums. My folks bought me a drum set, paid for lessons and let me grow my hair long. I was gonna be the next KISS drummer. Remember this was 1977.

After 20 years I got bored playing drums and have now been playing the bass. I like the ability to jump and run around while I play. The drums were too restrictive.

A boy asks his mother for bass lessons. She takes him aside and says, “Now, son, you wanted ice skating lessons last year. I bought you the skates and the pass to the rink and you went twice and quit. We can’t have that again.”

Keyboards, Guitar, and Drums for me.

My mom made me take piano lessons from ages 7-14 and I cursed her everyday I had to practice and carry the extra books to school....

UNTIL I bought my first synthesizer (Prophet 5, which I still own) at age 16 and started a band. Good times.

Currently I have the Prophet, an old Yamaha DX-7 and Ensoniq sampler still left.

My dad plays guitar and has his whole life (his first paying gig was in 1964!). So it was only a matter of time before I asked for "lessons"

Currently I have a '88 Fender Strat and the '64 Rickenbacker hollowbody my dad gave me on my 21st birthday (still one of my most prized possessions).

I've always loved noodling around on the drum sets the drummers in my bands would leave at my house (my parents could tolerate noisy rehersals). I finally took the plunge several years ago and bought a Yahmaha DTX electronic drum set. Fun to plug in the earphones and whale away without bothering anyone else.

I could play the Clarinet. I found it very easy to learn. I would like to learn how to play the Cello. My dad is an excellent guitarist(Spanish music)and has a good voice too.

I have a Rickenbacker 360 thats been sitting in its case for six years now. I have cheap Takamine acoustic that I like strumming on now and then, but I never really learned to play (well). I also have an old drum machine that I gave up on because it was a complete bitch to program.

Guitar, keyboards, various types of percussion, recorder, & harmonica.

I was in a back yard band as a teen and we wrote all of own music. We recorded about a dozen tapes (our albums). I played by ear.

I never learned to play "Stairway to Heaven," "Dust in the Wind," and all those James Taylor and classic folk tunes tunes like my contemporaries.

I remember playing guitar once during a college open mic show and my choices of songs were:

Bowie's "Space Oddity"
Supertramp's "Casual Conversation" (Breakfast in America had just come out)
Pink Floyd's "Arnold Layne"
and one of my originals

I was a bit smashed at the time.

And not too well, either. Short stubby fingers. Need lessons badly. But I enjoy trying to hash out songs I like.

I was much better on the violin, which I played for 7 years, but I grew quite bored with it by high school. Should've bought a guitar back then!

Well, we had a band before, but not that "great band" type. Just a hobby. I play drums, keyboards (wishful thinking, ghost in you, melt with you), guitars (between something and nothing, drifting and falling) and bass.
