Most fans of classic Yes, refer to the Trevor Rabin years as their sellout years, and despise those records. For those unfamiliar, Steve Howe was the original Yes guitarist. He was classically trained and was very prominent in the progressive sound of their classic seventies albums. Hits included Roundabout, Yours Is No Disgrace, and I've Seen All Good People.
In the early eighties, Howe left Yes and joined Asia. He was replaced by Trevor Rabin, who was more of a pop songwriter. They enjoyed their biggest hits in his time. Hits include Owner Of A Lonely Heart, Changes,Leave It, and Love Will Find A Way.
Question is, which version of Yes do you most enjoy?
For me, I'm a sucker for a good hook and a four minute song. I much prefer the Rabin-years.
I will say this, though, they had an album out in 1980 which featured Trevor Horn (Buggles) on vocals and a few of their songs ghad a new wave feel to them. Into The Lens (I am a camera) is a good example.
