Yeah, the subject line is misleading, but true. Some people in my town are seriously retarded (by the way, the town I live in is Granite City, Illinois. Just across the river from St. Louis):

[i]A man from Granite City was charged Wednesday with misdemeanor animal cruelty for allegedly beating his injured dog with a board.

The dog had been struck by a car about 9:45 p.m. Monday outside Darren Crider's home in the 2800 block of Emzee Avenue, said Police Chief Richard Miller. The driver didn't stop.

Crider, who had been drinking, saw that the dog's back legs were injured and struck it a couple of times in the head with a board, Miller said. Crider, 33, told police he hit his pet with a 2-by-4 so the dog wouldn't suffer and because he didn't want his child to see the injured dog, Miller said.[/i]

Then his wife chimes in:

[i]On Wednesday, Kristy Crider disputed the allegations against her husband. She said that he had never hit the dog, a Golden Labrador named Lita after the singer Lita Ford, and that he was heartbroken the dog had been injured.[/i]
